Sorry but we don’t all live by initials alone.

The original BSG was good for the time. A lot of people saw it as a Star Wars knock off, but I enjoyed iit, though it’s run was short.

But the reboot and storyline update is one of the great series imo.

Ok. Battlestar Galactica, I watched the original with Lorne Green decades ago and really liked it. Never watched the remakes. The head Cylon was cool.

I was a teen when the REAL BSG came out and it it easily my favorite. I had big crushes on Jane Seymour (Serena) and Ann Lockhart (Sheeba).

Apollo, Starbuck and Boomer from the original had great chemistry and the relationship between Apollo and Adama was much better.

Lloyd Bridges was a far superior "Cain" compare to Michelle Forbes...it wasn't even close.

Lastly, John Collicos as Baltar was much better than the remake.

I was the right age for that, preteen when it was first broadcast.

It WAS a Star Wars knockoff, in the very best sense. John Dykstra (sp) was very involved with the first Star Wars, left Lucas and took that tech to the small screen. The special effects were about on par with Star Wars, some shots were even superior (through learned technique). The model building was insane for the time. Closest thing prior was stuff like Lost In Space, Star Trek, Space 1999, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, etc. Galactica took things up several notches from that.

This came out prior to Empire Strikes Back. Young me ate that up, doing the requisite WW2 conversions... Star Wars was like the European theater, and Battlestar Gallactica was like the Pacific (battlestars being carriers).
Back in the late 70's, we didn't have much in video games (Atari), nothing like now. We also had toys, but not the level of anime stuff there is now. So for Scifi war games, it was mostly these 2 franchises, and luckily the toys were about same scale. So there were lots of dogfights between Vipers and Tie Fighters, X Wings vs Raiders, etc.

Neat little connection- they had several designs for the Viper, before choosing the final one for the show. One of the other options became the Buck Rogers starfighter for that show.

The remake was almost certainly the better watch, but just for nostalgia and memories, the original holds a special place in my heart.

NOTHING in the original can hold a candle to Caprica Six. She was practically perfect.

I'm with you and Scoob on this.

I watched the original as a kid and it was worth my time, same as Buck Rogers and similar.

I had no idea about the reboot until co-workers and MTV board friends here shared it with me as a must-watch. I've championed it ever since. I'm probably due for a 5x-6x re-watch soon.

Many will rightfully say it's a drama - but set in space - so it's not just for Sci-Fi fans.

It hits about every box as a full encompassing show. Survival, Religion, Politics, Sex, everything is on the table. The ending story arc disappoints some people, but they do absolute justice for the characters.

I recommend it to everyone if that's the OP question. Bill Adama is akin to Ron Swanson of GOATs.

And obligatory:

Colicos also played the first major Klingon character in Star Trek and made some of the aesthetic choices that remain with the race to this day - the entire Genghis Khan theme is largely based on decisions he made.

He was also a great, scene-chewing actor.

Sad to say I did and was painful to watch. This was the result of a letter writing campaign to bring back BSG but they had a fraction of the budget which meant most of the original cast players were not brought back.

I’m a child of the 70s and I loved the original but it was a straight up Star Wars knockoff right down to the marrow. The reboot was far and away superior
