I saw it opening night at the theater. There was like 5 people in there. I did try to rewatch like a year ago and I couldn't get more than 10 minutes in. They should have made Kylo the big bad, there was no reason to "somehow" bring back Palpatine.

In his defense Abrams did fine and had to setup Episode 8 which was screwed up. There was only so much he could do with 9 to salvage a profitable and not the worst half arse movie.

here’s a semi defense of disneys ownership of Star Wars…most of his examples of product that stands up are really subjective in that I think only a super fan would agree with him, but…

He’s right in that the prequels were almost as bad as the sequels, and without Disney we wouldn’t have any of this anyway, even the good shows.

worth a read

For how bad Rise of Skywalker is, and it's bad, it's still miles more competent than The Last Jedi. That's not to prop Rise of Skywalker up. It's legit laughably bad.

This is spot on, and I’ve never seen a compelling story idea for episode 9 after The Last Jedi.

There was nothing to work with after The Last Jedi. Hell, I think they even say “This is all that’s left of the rebellion” and it’s like 15 people.

Leia was still one of the Rebels. How? They beat the Empire….she should’ve been chancellor. Do we think after RotJ that she wouldn’t be worshipped by the whole galaxy? Where TF did the First Order come from? The Empire was defeated….would the Senate allow a new oppressor to arise? Han Solo was a hero of the galaxy…but he’s back smuggling? I don’t have an issue with him being killed by Ren but we missed a Luke, Leia and Han reunion. How TF did they gut a whole planet and create a planet killing death ray without anyone noticing? Just because we needed something to blow up again?

All these are legitimate story complaints, but they don’t equate to a bad movie. Episode 7 is at least a competent, entertaining movie.

Episodes 8 and 9 are bad movies even ignoring Star Wars canon and fandom. They’re structured like comedy scripts, have bizarre pacing, strange character arcs, and Episode 8 has horrible comedic misfires.

Agreed.

I still haven't finished more than the first half hour of 9.

7 was fun. 8 was enough to make me not wanna watch 9.

Im just glad we have so much good star wars content outside of the sequel trilogy.

Mando and Andor and Rogue One are the sequel trilogy that matches the OT.

Better than the prequels

Don't you mean Rise of Palpatine?

No. Zero interest. Never saw it, never will.
