The Boys comic is from 2006, I’m not sure Trump was a driving force in the character.

True, though there is zero question about the TV show -

Rolling Stone article from 2022

Be nice for some shows to imitate the crookedness of the leftists every once in a while..

Shiv was absolutely a leftist and she sold her soul to have a piece of the top of her father's company. And used her political connections to try to take him down through a Congressional Committee. It also showed her trying to intimidate a sexual assault victim into not testifying against her father's company.

I think some of y'all have some serious blinders on watching some of these shows because you're pissed they took a shot at Trump. The shows mentioned here specifically have taken shots across the board.

Right - if anything, the Roys are supposed to be a strange melding of Murdoch's NewsCorp and an alternate history Disney if it had remained a family-run operation.

While their Bernie proxy (the actor looks/sounds like Bernie and Anthony Bourdain had a baby) was written to be a much better person overall than their despicable take on what we must assume is Tucker, insofar as Hollywood can get close to a 60-40 split, they did it with Succession.

(ETA: Those seeing Trump in Homelander for The Boys are spot on, however.)

Well and it even showed Pierce (which would be the "liberal" equivalent to Murdoch) as mirroring the Roys as well. They might've looked better on the surface but they had their dysfunctional children and illusions of grandure.

I don't disagree. But they have their Democrat equivalent in Victoria Neuman (Head Popper) who is literally the other big bad in the show. She's depicted as righteous in the forefront but is devious "behind the scenes". So it's not that they're just taking a shot at Trump as OP and others are portraying. They're taking shots at everybody.

If all you're seeing in that character is Trump than it's clear that you want to be seeing Trump.

When the showrunner and creator of The Boys comes out and says that Homelander is Trump, what should you see in the character?

Neither of those shows bothered me with that.

I mean honestly, Homelander despite being evil, is one of pretty much everybody's favorite character on the show.

I don't think I thought of Donald Trump one time the entire time I watched Succession.

I can't help but feel like Succession's lesson was that the people who hold power in our society (politically or privately) are fricking terrible people across the board. Literally, all of them.

I don't see anyone winning in that.

I don't agree. These shows may throw shade at all, but they definitely push the viewer down the left road. They always make dems look good.

I'm thinking of The West Wing. One of my favorite shows ever. They threw a little shade at the dems, but they threw A LOT more at the republicans and always finished story lines with a dem win to show that dems and the way they believe is always best for everybody.

That's how I see it anyway.

Dipshit, the poster basically said he was imagining it. Facts disagree. Deflect all you like, but it's a clear own. This show and the people who make it are all tore up with TDS, according to their own words.

I liked the first season, but it went straight up its own a-hole immediately after that.

We're talking about The Boys and Succession.

I gave pretty two clear examples in how they don't make the "Dems look good" (Succession's Shiv and The Boys Victoria Neuman).

Are you saying those two specific characters make Dems look good? I'm curious how you interpret that they do.

It was a show about a dem President and his mostly idealistic cabinet, written by Aaron Sorkin and starring Martin Sheen. Anyone going into that show expecting something different was naive. It's an amazing show, but is pretty irrelevant in a discussion about Succession and The Boys.

Trump deserves the heat. The real problem is that the equivalent on the Left always gets a pass.

i'll push back on this a bit. I am no Trump supporter. Out of 6 opportunities to vote for him, i have and will have voted against him probably 5 times in November.

i've made this argument 100 times.

white supremacy is evil. that's not negotiable. Trump can be a mildlyracist a-hole and a whole bunch of other negative things I won't argue against, but he's not a white supremacist.

my problem with boys, hunters, watchmen, peacemaker was that they made the white supremacists bad guys (they are bad) but then they try to lean into making sure we know that the modern right (and Trump) are the white supremacists they're talking about.

Left ---- Right

White supremacy is evil ---- Hell yeah!!!
They're irredeemable ---- Right!!
We need to stamp them out of society ---- I mean i'd like for them to stop being racist, but we can't stop their thoughts
The far right is the hotbed of white supremacy ----- Racism exists everywhere and it's not exclusive to the right
Donald Trump is their leader ------ Trump can suck but i don't think he's a white supremacist.
We will take out everybody that supports him or is on his side of the aisle!!!! ----- Wait WTF?

Nope. I'm saying there are a lot of other shows out there that do what I said. I like my big picture approach vs limited the discussion to two shows. Not much of a sampling is it?

Then feel free to give example/name shows.

But what you quoted that I said was part of a post regarding The Boys and Succession (which is what the OP highlighted). Thanks for providing the context.
