I used to know an older gentleman nicknamed Hershey who was an orphan raised in one of the homes started by Milton Hershey. He spoke very highly of his experience and how it shaped him.

We visited Hersheypark and the Hershey museum several years ago, and it was worth the visit. After hearing his story and visiting the museum, I walked away with a tremendous amount of respect for Milton Hershey.

I am sorry, but when you have not seen a movie, it is completely asinine to make definitive statements about it. It just shows your criticism is completely agenda-driven.

I visit it more than I care to admit. It doesn't make it any less asinine.

But since the director has publicly admitted to producing AI slop, I don't feel bad skipping it.

Oh no. A few shots were AI. The horror. It was a very good movie. That's a very stupid reason to skip it. I suppose you've skipped pretty much ever recent Marvel movie for this very reason. Because, well... if you haven't... I have news for you.

I just listened to the Aquired Podcast episode on Mars, Inc. which is the Mars Candy and all the other companies they own and that’s a wild story.

The Food That Built America on History Channel has an episode about Franklin and Forrest Mars that was really good if you’re interested.

this movie is nothing but an under budgeted long commercial/puff piece for the Hershey family (who funded it). They were filming in Pittsburgh while I was there for a project and the horror stories were circulating. AD while nice to look at, is not a good actor.

Looks terrible and will certainly be that.

The "chocolate wars" between families and the preceding history of how they built their empires is a pretty damn fascinating though. I've watched some history channel documentaries on this and it's a cool subject.

Hershey chocolate is big piece of American history, from the development of a new American industry to support during our international conflicts (WWII and beyond), etc. I'll watch this on stream and probably enjoy it for what it is.

i was thinking about getting into that show and yeah Forrest Mars is a wild character. i’m sure that episode is great.

The Dominos/Pizza Hut episode made the founders of both chains look like psychos, which is great.

And for that matter the ones on Milton Hershey and the Hershey were really good too. Hershey pops up on a few more episodes too, it’s wild to see how so many other could only get started because of Hershey, Kraft, Kellogg, etc. supplying them with inputs.

Welp. Now I know what I’m watching this evening

It’s one of my favorites. I love all the Built America spinoffs but Food is the most interesting one to me I guess because the brands and companies are things we use almost daily or have some kind of nostalgic connection and don’t really think about how they got there- then we find out the people who created all these fun, magical, candies and cereals; Happy Meals; popcorn; pizza; etc. were cut throat egomaniacs

Touring the factory and going to the park was a blast. Also walking into the store with all the different candy for the first time as a 13 year old was heaven.

People like you will rip on this movie while simultaneously glazing movies like the live-action Snow White and the horrendous new Star Wars trilogy. Having a giant budget doesn't make a good movie.

Does Angel Studios make budget movies? A lot of times, yeah. But they pump out a ton of them, consistently with A-List actors, tackling scripts that the big studios ignore.

It's a wildly successful model as well. They have over 2 million members for the Angel Guild and their movies often over-perform at the box office.
