Yeah, this show is incredibly well done. The last two episodes have been like a master class in building tension.. the writing, the way it’s shot, the way it’s cut, the music, everything makes you feel the pot starting to boil.
The dialogue in the prison is especially good. You can really feel the panic starting to creep in over the second half of this episode.
It’s hard to explain but this storyline just feels so… real, compared to the rest of the Star Wars universe. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s focused on regular humans, but I think it’s more than that. They’re taking the time to flesh everything out and as a result, the characters’ actions feel more believable. I thought the ISB scene where they talk about what to do with the rebel pilot was a great example. They aren’t leaving a whole lot of plot holes/loose ends.

The music for the prison scenes was outstanding.
All of the music for this show has been fantastic.

I hate to admit it but I'm one of the people that the slow burn in episodes 1-5 was almost too much for. It was just so damn boring I almost couldn't keep watching but im so glad I did bc since episode 5 (I think?) it has ratcheted up and been an absolute stellar series

We are around the same time. Rebels and this show both begin 5 BBY.
You are correct but the cells were still not all connected. I could see may be at least a reference to the Ghost crew in season 2 as we know the Ghost at least the ship and Chopper were seen in Rogue One.

I just recently started and watched episode 4 last night. I had been reluctant to watch because Disney. But what a fantastic show this is so far.

I got legit chills when Andor asked “how many guards are on each floor” at the end of the episode. What a great series.

Yep. Just great acting and great writing all around. They earned themselves that scene.

Yeah, I still can't believe how good this show is. The writing, cinematography, acting, and overall quality and storytelling is massively superior to any other piece of Star Wars content. This is easily the best show on Disney+.
It honestly feels like an HBO show. I don't think I can go back to the vapid writing and typical Star Wars status quo after watching this.

This times 100. I legit had decided Star Wars was dead beyond The Mandalorian. I’m still skeptical that they’re gonna lead into the sequel trilogy with the post ROTJ stuff.
This show is HBO quality. The writing, acting, and direction is top notch. Mostly I think it’s because they are telling a smaller story about a regular guy. That’s what Star Wars needs. The movies blow. Give me tales of intrigue surrounding the hive of scum and villainy that populate the galaxy.

They’re telling the story of Nazi Germany from street level.

Sorta. They’re more telling the story of the French resistance. But I agree. It would be awesome to see a show about a stormtrooper or squad of stormtroopers buying into the propaganda and then becoming disillusioned. Basically All Quiet on the Western Front in Space.

All caught up, agree with others this is an amazing show. Best Star Wars I've seen period.

It’s kind of funny because aside from the shared universe, this show really doesn’t seem very “Star Wars.” It’s much more mature/serious in tone, much darker, and really shares very little (stylistically) with the rest of the franchise.
I’ll have to do a rewatch of Rogue One after the season ends but I don’t recall it being quite like this either.

I haven’t read through the thread because we just caught up, but it feels much more Blade Runner to me.
And I mean that as a very high complement. Stylistically it is great, the music and sets are perfect, and the story has been so much better than typical SW fare.
The entire Eye Festival and that base and planet looked so damn good. Best SW setting since Jaba’s palace???
Skaarsgard is so good. His salesperson schtick is great.

Yeah I haven’t seen it since the theater. Don’t remember much other than I liked it.
Almost did a rewatch before but kind of glad I didn’t now.
Looking forward to doing that once this is wrapped up.

There are a ton of good stories to tell within the Star Wars universe. It’s really not that hard to make a great show or movie with the source material.
First step to make a good show or movie is to hire a director and writer that actually loves and respect Star Wars, not one that loves and cares about non Star Wars related stupid shite.
That’s why the Mandalorian is awesome, as well as Rogue One, Andor, Boba Fett and The Clone Wars and Rebels and why the last two movies and Obi Wan were pathetic.
And I can guarantee you Ahsoko is going to be an awesome series b/c of its director/writer.

I was up and down on Boba Fett. When it started out as Dances With Wolves on Tatooine I was all in. But they kinda lost the thread making him a benevolent character. Also, the action scenes were atrocious. It bugs me when the stakes are low for the heroes. Running down hallways, mowing down bad guys while hardly aiming. Doing weird spinning behind the back trick shots. Bad guys missing every shot.
So far, Andor has killed 2 men (one accidentally and the other in cold blood) Maybe he had a kill or 2 in the heist episode? He’s gotten shot and was affected for multiple episodes. He struggled in hand to hand combat with a regular grunt. He was arrested by a singular stormtrooper. That’s all so much better than just beating up the bad guys and blowing shite up in every situation.
Hopefully, the people in charge know good content when they see it and this type of story continues. It’s not rocket science. Older guys like Star Wars. Despite their best efforts, women, children, and politics-obsessed liberals didn’t buy in to their weird, woke trilogy. Keep making adult stories. I bet if the content is good, the demographics they’re trying to bring in will follow.

quote:The thing is the opposite is true for Rogue One and Andor, well at least the loves part. Gilroy is on record saying he’s not a Star Wars fan, but obviously he respects it enough to ensure the story fits within the established canon. And I think there might be something to the idea that maybe it’s good to have people who are a little less invested in the stories, characters, and lore they’ve cherished for decades because it’s too easy to want to tell stories within those more narrow parameters and the universe doesn’t expand so much. Not to mention, one’s own head cannon may not jive with someone else’s.

Obviously Filoni and Favreau have done well as fans, but they still recognize the need to expand and tell different stories. I just think that’s harder to do when you’re so invested in the past.

I just hope Disney takes note how good this show is despite the lackluster ratings
It’s the best thing on TV

I never thought i would say this, but you are correct.
Andor is currently the best thing on TV
Mr Gilroy already announced similar setup for season 2. I can not wait.
