Mainly a show of force IMO. Technology fails and you'd be dumb to not have a backup.
Yeah I’m pretty sure those guards would have been even more fricked if they didn’t have guns. Once the floor was shorted out, that was their only advantage due to the numbers.
ETA: Another fantastic episode. Skarsgard’s monologue was epic. For some reason I thought this was the finale, which left me a bit confused at the end. Now that I realize there are two more episodes it makes a lot more sense.

Stellan Skarsgård is just so good, and that monologue at the end gave me chills.
He motherfricking crushed that monologue. Great job with wardrobe making him almost look evil given that he has had to become his enemy to wage war against them.

I am speechless after this episode. It doesn’t get any better than this.

When Ole boy stopped and said "I can't swim" it was gut wrenching.
Was pretty harsh. But it's the little ways they do things that are so natural that makes it stand out among all other Star Wars content and makes me love it even more. Instead of Cassian having the moment of "we'll figure this out" and Kino saying dramatically "no, save yourself, I was never meant to leave this place, just to lead these men out", Cassian gets swept off the side in the mad rush and we never really know what happens with Kino. We can think he either got swept off too and drowned or waited around for the imperials to show up or he took his life in his own way.
I'm hopeful we'll learn he miraculously made it off and we see him again later but I don't feel that's how this show operates.

I kind of hope we don’t find out, as much as I’d love to see Serkis again. He is just one of the best actors today. I am in the middle of listening to The Lord of the Rings, narrated by Serkis, and even though I’ve read it a bunch of times, his narration makes it fresh and alive as if it is my first read-through.
Luthen’s speech about being cursed to use the tools of his enemy, in the context of choosing to let rebels die for the greater good, is just about the least Star Wars-like thing imaginable. I didn’t expect that and I loved it. Up until this point it seemed to me like Luthen had a soft spot for Andor, beyond just as a tool. Perhaps he does, or perhaps he just is ruthless and forming a hero out of him that would be useful. Luthen has already sacrificed everything himself, so why shouldn’t we all?

I thought the same thing about his long robe and silhouette. He almost looked like a Sith there in the shadows. A coworker and proclaimed Star Wars fan hates this show bc there are no Jedi/lightsabers/Force. I told her it’s a big reason why it’s so good, they have to actually create a story and not rely on that crutch. The only thing I hate about this show is that it’s about to end. Serkis is so talented

Well he talks with such affection for his ISB spy in that speech, like he means the world to Luthen, but he still held out that they were involved with Aldhani. These people mean a lot to him but he still has to play the game in the shadows.
Did I not understand the scene, or did he actually call on Vel and Cinta to take out Cassian after the heist? Or did that order come from someone else? I know the order actually came from another woman but I'm not sure who she actually represents.
I probably just need to watch it again.

You know this is only the first of two seasons, right? This one will cover a year's time and season 2 will be around 4 years, I believe, and take us up to the events of Rogue One.

I know I do need to watch it again. I thought this would be a show I could just have on while I work. It’s definitely not. I’m sure I’ve missed some important things.

Yes but there’s a long gap between the two, pretty sure they recently released Season 2 start date. IIRC, it’s a long ways away

They just started filming, yeah.

It’s just a joke. Serkis did the motion capture/voice for Snoke. Glad he got redemption in Andor, although none of that was his fault at all.

It was Luthen's assistant Kleya who told Vel to tie up the loose end, so I assumed/deduced the order came from Luthen, especially after Luthen admitted to Kleya (during the Bix-radio-no-reply scene) he may not have been as careful as he should have been by recruiting a disappearing merc like Andor. Then Vel met up with Cinta & now Cinta is staking out Andor's Mom's house.
I don't recall the order actually coming from another woman but, like you,I probably just need to watch it again.

It was the assistant who gave the order to Vel, you're right. I just watched part of The Axe Forgets where Kleya tells Luthen that Vel is the only one of the crew that tracks back to them, and Luthen tells her he wasn't careful with Andor..........so either that was an implied instruction from him to take out Andor after it went down or Kleya took it upon herself.

Ah totally forgot about that and right over my head.

In my mind Kino found another way out and there is nothing anyone can tell me otherwise. Of course they will probably show his floating corpse first thing next episode.

The title of the episode was literally “One Way Out.”

Maybe he can go back and torture a guard for info.
