AMC to charge more for Batman tickets as part of "variable pricing" strategy

AMC Theaters CEO Adam Aron dropped a bombshell this week by announcing the exhibition chain will charge more for tickets to “The Batman” as part of a variable pricing experiment. Tickets to the Robert Pattinson-starring comic book tentpole will be “slightly higher than the prices… for other movies playing in the same theaters at the same time,” Aron said during an AMC earnings call. According to Entertainment Weekly, AMC is charging an extra $1.50 on adult tickets for “The Batman” in Los Angeles.

“This is all quite novel in the United States, but actually, AMC has been doing it for years in our European theaters,” Aron said. “Indeed, in Europe, we charge a premium for the best seats in the house, as do just about all other sellers of tickets in other industries — think sports events, concerts and live theater, for example.”

That is how you keep people from going to the theater.

Perfect strategy to keep people home

guess who has two thumbs and won't be seeing The Batman at an AMC theater?
frick that and frick this dude. They aren't going to reduce the prices of the garbage seats up front so no way in hell would I ever pay premium for a center of the theater seat.

How do you roll out this strategy during this current period in time?
Holy shite what a fail.
Holy shite what a fail.

This is why I have little to no sympathy when these corporations cry about people not going to the theaters anymore.

It's an a-hole tax for living in LA.

In addition, this movie is supposed to be on HBOMAX in like 40 days.

as long as they dont mess with my A-List i dont care what they do.

I just don't understand all these moronic corporations fricking over customers to chase pennies in the short term to cost them millions over the long run.

Are they still putting these things on like HBO max as well as theatres?

This is how you keep poor people from going to the theater. And I’m all in favor for it.
I gladly pay $25 for a ticket to get a better viewing experience. Nicer seats, less people, no riff-raff.

Shocking that so many people are offended by a company for pricing for what people will pay. This is a luxury, not a necessity.
Maybe it doesn't make sense, and maybe they'll drive people away--but I doubt it.
These are the business that were shut down for well over a year. I don't blame them for cashing in.
My theater has the "DBOX" seats and I'm willing to pay that premium just for the nicer and reserved seat.

Im not offended over this, its just a shitty time to do it.
They should have waited a little bit to roll this out.
Keeping rif raf out was something I didnt think about tho that would be a pro.....

Maybe AMC might not feel the need to charge more for THE BATMAN if the studios hadn't left THE BATMAN as the only major theatrical release for an entire month...

I only go to 21+ reserved seating theaters for this very reason.

Just got an email from Cinemark saying the member price is going up $1 to $10
With that you get a free movie ticket a month (plus rewards as you spend) and %20 concessions. Unused tickets roll over too. Me and the wife have been to the theatre a handful of times over the past couple of months and bought just a normal amount of concessions each time. When I got Batman tickets last night, all four of the tickets were free because of the reward points earned up.
The Cinemark here is 10x nicer than the AMC too. It's got the big lounge chairs, you can have the drinks and stuff brought to you in your seat and it serves alcohol. If you go to the theatre even a little bit, the Cinemark membership is worth it.

In my late teen's to early 20's I was fairly broke, but I loved going to the theatre. It'd be kind of ridiculous to have ticket prices set to where somebody that doesn't have a lot of money cant afford to go.
As long as people shut up, I don't care who is there. I'd stop going to the theatre on principle alone if they jumped it to $25. Isn't minimum wage like $7.50 an hour? It'd kind of suck to have tickets so high that it wouldn't even be practical for a kid, or anybody for that matter, working a normal job not be able to afford going to a theatre.
But I grew up with a mom busting her arse working two jobs so I could have a really good childhood after my dad left. So I have a soft spot for people that are struggling. That's also one of the reasons there isn't a single person that works for us makes under $18 an hour.

Reserved seating is the industry standard and has been for several years. You don’t charge people more for one of the few reasons why they still use your service.
