This season seems to be a competition to see who can starve the longest. Biko is the betting favorite

He lost 35 lbs and he's still pretty big

I would have faked a back injury or something and not use the "I miss my family" on video. You can believe a medical tap...

So far this season is a letdown. They shouldn't have the show in an area they aren't allowed to hunt the animals around them. I like that it's difficult to succeed but it's to centered around fishing. Maybe once it's snowing they'll be able to track rabbits, etc...better.

This season is akin to going to a grocery store and being told you can’t buy any food.

There's always a catch. Some seasons, the contestants have been parked right in front of saltwater or brackish water--non-drinkable. They had to be very creative when it came to drinking water until the snows came.

Rabbits are going to be tough this year. I remember last season, the best way to get rabbits was the use of snares. I'm not sure that this will be a useful method as I'm sure that the snares will also catch squirrels, which are on the no hunt list.
This is a disappointing season so far. I think the fat guy wins by being able to starve the longest.

Also these people need to make some kind of net so they stop losing the fish.
That one guy built an awesome net and went fishing. He dropped his spool of line in the water, throws the net to the side, and lays down on the rock to reach the spool that he could have easily recovered with the net.
Can we talk about fish traps? Has anyone ever caught anything with one? That woman’s trap ended up on shore with the top off but it seemed obvious to me that wave action did that.

They need to go back to the artic for season 9.

I don't think where they are is that much further south. Maybe they are doing it earlier in the year maybe? The weather seems to be great though. They are all screwed if the weather turns. Only one person has a decent shelter. The rest are basically sleeping under a tarp.
There are 4 out in under 3 weeks. Is that right? They have water and tons of edibles on the ground (onions, roots, mushrooms, herbs, berries). I know they need protein, but there are bugs and birds. They shouldn't be starving this much. I just don't get relying on fish. Has that ever worked on the show?

These first few episodes have been mostly filled with shite I don’t care to watch.
Hopefully now we can get to the actual survival aspect of the show now that the wimps are out.

Bump for tonight's episode.
For a little bit of perspective on how dangerous "Grizzly Island" is for these people, a woman in Montana was pulled out of her tent and killed by a Grizzly:
LINK
I'll wager Montana Grizzly population is less than the location of these contestants.

There's also this little nugget, so not sure we really need to put this one in perspective, although i'll give them the benefit of the doubt since they didn't sound like they were camping in the woods. Regardless, you don't sleep with food near your tent, much less in your tent.

Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks (FWP) officials said the bear had previously stumbled across the site around 3 a.m., where Lokan and a couple were camping near a post office. The bear ran away after waking the three campers, who removed food from their tents, secured it, and went back to bed.

If I read this correctly, they didn't put their food away until 3 a.m. If that's they case then this tragedy was potentially avoidable. Many parks that have bears will have Bear Boxes to store food and trash.
I'm with the Boy Scouts and this is one of the most basic lessons we are teaching kids as young as 6 years old. No food in the tents and they have to be properly stored.

well it sounds like they were "camping" near civilization. Says they were right by a post office. And they were biking long distance so i assume they weren't far off the road.
Regardless, if you know you're in bear country, don't sleep with food in your tent.

Get a deer, build a smokehouse. We have a front runner.

This latest episode was the best of the season. It was all about survival skills. Virtually no emotional drama.
Nate tapping out made sense. He had lost a bunch of weight (35 pounds) in just 25 days and wasn't getting sustainable food. Even with the dock he built it wasn't getting the job done. I do think he magnified his "sickness" from drinking the bad water that was done off camera but he was done.
Rose will probably be next. Her shelter doesn't look great and she's so thin already I don't see her lasting.
Clay taking down that deer is a game changer if he can keep the animals from getting into it.

Yes, there were significant developments in this episode, but this is still one of the least-interesting seasons of Alone. I've gone back and re-watched previous seasons because they were so interesting, but I can barely keep my attention on these episodes. Overall, the personalities are not as interesting, nor are they as capable of handling the mental and survival challenges. We are now down to the real competitors and the remaining episodes will hopefully be better.

Clay needs to stay on the ball and keep hunting and fishing. Just keep stocking up food
