That's all that needs to be said about Prometheus. And I had such high hopes before actually watching it.

I can appreciate what Ridley Scott was trying to do with Prometheus, but the execution was terrible. Way too many plot holes, contrivances, and unexplained BS to be considered a great movie.

Agree 100%.

It could have been great. But the execution was far from it.

I think I took a different enjoyment out of the Aliens franchise than other people. I see a lot of praises for it, but I don't get it. I see a lot of praises for Prometheus too, but once again, don't get the hype.

For me Aliens was the story of Ripely and you keep on moving forward until the mystery box that is the aliens is solved.

Prometheus, Covenant, and Romulus, as good as they might be all delve deep into the past. None of it having any bearing on what happened in Aliens moving on forward. Like, why is the Aliens franchise stuck in neutral and not progressing the story? Is it because they have no idea on what to do? So as neat as Romulus is I'll probably watch it when its on one of the streaming service I am subbed too, paying money to delve deep into the past that has no bearing on the mystery of the aliens makes no sense to me.

Yes. Was aggravating.

+1

To me, the Alien trilogy (I like to pretend Resurrection doesn't exist ) is about Ripley's story, similar to how Star Wars was about the Skywalker family.

For that reason, I can appreciate A3 and its ending despite the overall movie not being my cup of tea. Ripley sacrificed herself to end the xenomorph threat once and for all. Fin.

Prometheus had an opportunity to tap unexplored content without tainting Ripley's saga, but it was tragically botched.

At this point, everything is just an IP cash grab. Some of it is just executed better than others.

I agree with that but unlike several of the past Alien films, this is the first time I actually cared about our protagonists and thought they had a compelling story + were well acted.

The guy who played Andy is going to be a star actor pretty soon. He was incredible flipping the switch between his care for Rain and what he became through the 2nd-3rd act and then flipped the switch back again. I also thought the girl who played Rain was really good. She could have easily over acted and been too melodramatic but she was damn good. She had to be. If it weren’t for those two, this movie would have been a lot worse I think

some idiotic decisions in that movie, however Charlize probably looked her best in a while in it

fricking Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Idris Elba in an Alien movie and none of them are the main character

I need to go back and rewatch the original movies but I thought this was decent. I thought this movie would be great based on how good the trailer is but it was just good in my opinion. Last act is pretty wild and I appreciate the risks it took but the getaways happen so much and are at just the right time every time that I started to roll my eyes toward the end.

One day you’ll grow up and realize Prometheus is a good movie

Quite the opposite ..for me anyway. The first time I watched it in the theater I thought it was ok. but as I get older the more and more I dislike it. Watched it again last night and I was just laughing to myself at how terrible it is in just about every aspect except in the visual dept. I like the concept of the engineers, the mutagen effecting different life forms in different ways and David was an interesting character but everything else was just terribly written.

Covenant wasnt great either but it didnt make my eyes roll quite as much as in Prometheus. That being said I would've like to seen a 3rd movie to finish David arc.

One film in the series that I have grown to appreciate over the years is Alien 3......espcially the assembly cut.

The problem with Prometheus is they didn’t tie it as directly as they should have to the Alien movies

Well, it was filmed to be the first movie in a trilogy with the final movie ending leading directly into Alien. It's not Promethius's fault that it's trilogy was never completed.

going overboard with CGI.

Thats the problem with movies nowadays. I wish Stan Winston was still alive and continuing to make the aliens. The CGI aliens are shite compared to the originals from Winston.

It felt amazing seeing a practical xenomorph

Practical effects are coming back. Look at this and Terrifier 2 for example

I'm not looking for my review of Prometheus from when it came out, but I spelled it all out then. It may be the most disappointing film I've ever watched. After that, I stopped giving a shite.

If this one is good, who gives a shite? It would be like a cherry on top of a big, wet turd.

There’s a lot I really loved about this movie but some specific decisions I really didn’t like

Spoilers

I didn’t like CGI Holmes. It looked fake.

I didn’t like the design of the human alien at all. I thought Alien 4 had a better human alien.

I didn’t like Rain going back for Andy.

Maybe if Andy hadn’t already allowed people to die, sure. But I thought Rain had a responsibility to the other girl to see her back safe. And that obviously ended up not working out. Movie would have had a happy ending actually.

There were a few other things. But overall I really loved it. I could definitely tell this felt like Alien Isolation. They definitely built a lot of the design off that.

At the end of the day, I do feel like Alien Isolation is the better alien story.

But in terms of alien movies, not sure where I’d put it. Certainly after Alien and Aliens. I also am very nostalgic for Alien 3 and 4 but this is probably better
