Have to admit I believe he is solidly in the Overrated category and may be the first one on the list,
Yeah Yeah he did fine in Godfather but his other major films I truly can't stand his volatile approach in his scenes. Examples Devils Advocate, Heat, Scent of a Woman, The Devils Advocate.
Other than that, the movies are pretty good just his constant yelling and tough guy over reaction approach seems/seemed over the top.

Why list Devils advocate twice? Was he that bad that it needed to be listened twice?

First downvote

I mean Scarface and The Godfather themselves make sure he is not overrated. He is a legend and everyone knows that as an undisputed fact.

Why is it always a choice between overrated and underrated?

He's accurately rated. Had some legendary performances, but I don't think he's really been hyped since maybe Scent of a Woman. He's done plenty of low key performances with a lot of range too, and seems fairly down to earth the few times I've seen him interviewed.

Also has a decent body of stage work that doesn't get discussed all that much: LINK

His perfect portrayal of Michael Corleone over three pictures and many other fantastic performances (Donnie Brasco for one) ensure he should never be labeled overrated. Please.

Can't stand him.

And Scarface is overrated.

These threads are dumb without context.

Pacino is properly rated as a historically awesome actor.

Robert De Niro - Overrated?
Yes, I agree

He has two basic speeds:

1. Psycho

2. Overly repressed trying not to go psycho

Otherwise he's a line reader

Love him, but definitely overrated

I like DeNiro less, and consider him even more overrated

He had two careers...maybe the demarcation is pre-Heat, post-Heat, idk..

But he gave us:

Godfather 1 and 2
Dog Day Afternoon
Serpico
Glengarry
Carlito's Way
Donnie Brasco
The Merchant of Venice

But he also gave us his over-the-top acting in:

Heat
Scent of a Woman
Devil's Advocate
Any Given Sunday
Two For The Money
