this isn’t an insane project.
WandaVision was popular.
Agatha was a break out character of that show.
Cant really make a sequel to WandaVision.
Spin Off.
this is a pretty logical chain of thought
I get the logic if fans had an appetite for these shows, but aside from Loki they have all gotten mediocre to terrible reviews. Disney doesn't release streaming data but the consensus is no one is watching them. Given how much money it costs to make these, they absolutely have to be losing money each time. She Hulk cost 200 million dollars to make and was universally reviled. They probably lost 100 million dollars and tarnished the brand.
Agatha might be cheaper, but can you name a single person who was saying they needed an Agatha TV show and is actually going to watch this?

Maybe some middle aged ladies somewhere?

Nope, this was gonna be a pass for me until I found out Aubrey was in it. She earned enough goodwill from parks and rec that I'll support her projects

This is tough to quantify. Disney -- of all the streaming services -- has the toughest row to hoe as far as being financially viable. They are tied to a brand, and if that brand diminished, their service is less appealing because it's ALL disney. Yeah , they have some great IPs, but they pale in comparison to Netflix -- if for sheer quantity if not quality as well. Disney makes money in merchandising. If no one is buying the toys, they lose money.
Netflix isn't tied to a brand like Disney and they have the advantage of being the first mover in the market. As long as they put out enough content that will hit all segments of their market in some way, no one is really canceling Netflix. It's just something you've always had and likely will always have.
Amazon's business model is based on their space as the world's largest retailer. Their streaming service and originals are advertisements for Prime and their retail service. Watch a movie on Amazon and remember you needed a pair of hedgeclippers or that you were going to grab that book for your niece.
Hulu is carrying Disney right now based on their shows and serials -- their movie catalogue is mostly shite imo.
And then theirs Tubi for people that want to watch old stuff.
And then there's Apple which is a complete mystery. They spend a ton of money, make shows that sound really good, but I never hear anyone discussing them because, I don't know anyone that has Apple streaming. And I don't know their method of monetization outside of strictly subscriptions, and they can't beat Netflix this late in the game.
Max is already licensing their stuff out to other services.
And that's probably what Disney will do soon. There's just no path forward for them at this point. There's no strong demand for their service.

Best value for your money out of all the apps currently. Quality shows, reasonable downtime between seasons, and by now a sizable library of content. Putting out more sci-fi shows than the others combined it seems.

I've thought about it, but I check out the list of all the shows they have and I'm almost there. I want to see Monarch, Foundation, Ted Lasso and I've heard that they are working on Zelazny's Amber. I just have so many damn streaming services and they were late to the game.

Episode 3. Not a bad episode, but there wasn't much Agatha in it. I guess that makes sense. Each trial is witch specific and this wasn't hers.
All in all, it's much the same as the first two episodes. It was alright, but there's nothing that really grabs you.
So far, the young guy and Ali Ahn are the characters I like the most. The rest are just...blah.

There have probably been at least a half dozen times over the years when you’ve popped into a thread to say how ugly you think some attractive woman is. It’s ok not to be attracted to women, but that doesn’t make them ugly.

I typically watch the MCU to see how they’ll continue the story arc in that universe. In this case, name dropping Mephisto was pretty sweet. Now we just have to see if they actually do anything with him.
The series hasn’t really delivered anything else for me yet, so I hope that changes.
Having characters that aren’t heterosexual isn’t an automatic strike on a series, but when a company constantly includes trans and other non-hetero characters as a standard slate, it can get old. They are over representing that population to the point where it becomes obvious pandering.
If they would focus on good storytelling and less on checking boxes their profitability and ratings would increase overnight.

So no one’s watching this gay crap anymore?
Posted on 10/25/24 at 8:07 am to TeddyPadillac
We are at my house. It’s pretty uninteresting IMO. There’s nothing Marvel-ish or comic bookie about it, and I think it needs that. Without that it resembles a WB show.
Spoilers
The last episode I saw had all the witches but Agatha and Teen being killed. Two were just tossed off the road. If that stays true, that seems pretty lame.

well if anyone cares about who the gay cross dressing dude is
spoilers.....
He's Billy Maximoff, one of Wanda's twins from her fake reality world in the Hex in WandaVision.
I'm actually enjoying the show outside of the full on pointless gay cross dressing crap that they just had to put in the show for some reason.

When shows stop making politics front and center, they’ll stop being front and center in discussing them.
I am finally caught up on Agatha All Along and I am shocked that the discourse in this thread is about the show being woke. Can someone give me specifics about what is woke about it?
Is it the fact that the kid is gay? Because its definitely not the center of his story and being gay isn't his whole personality.
Is it the coven being diverse? Because they maybe mention it once and the fact that they are different races isn't a central point or even a side point at all.
I personally think the show is great and don't understand why there are 7 pages of comments with pretty much none of them being about the show at all.

I mean I guess. Its not like most woke nonsense where being a gay crossdresser is his whole personality.

It had nothign to do with anything relevant to the show. It was twarted into the show and detracted from what was actually going on b/c it had no reason to be a part of the show. It's just there to be there, and it's ridiculous. two dudes making out, then this disgustingness....
This isn't normal, nor should it be normalized.
And it was obvious the kid was gay, but he wasnt' acting gay in the show until these last 2 episodes where he went flaming gay, completely different than how he was acting the first 5 episodes.
