Why would Netflix do this? (rhetorical)

I guess I can take away that you are an incel.

"incel" is neither good nor bad on its face. it's just a thing. he's saying that it's intentionally trying to create this facade that "incels" (typically white males) are the real threat out there, which is ridiculous.

I definitely get why you need that to be true.

Watchmen
She Hulk
Joker 2
Off the top of my head. Could probably come up with a dozen, if i thought about it
It is becoming the new "girlboss" trope. I don't even necessarily disagree that incels are generally annoying.
But the trope is already getting tiresome

“Inspired by” and “based on” and “loosely based on” are different concepts.
Were the Greeks pissed about the whitewashing in O Brother Where Art Thou’s take on the Odyssey? Same difference.
This show isn’t Bridgerton level woke. This show isn’t woke at all.
Enjoyed the show for all the same reasons everyone else liked it. It shouldn’t some awards.

Just finished the first episode. Holy shite, that’s one of the most intense and heavy episodes of television I’ve ever see in my life. Wow.
I wanted to watch this because I have a son (only 5) and to process these kinds of emotions even from a pretend standpoint. But man that shite was hard to sit through. Yet at the same time I couldn’t take my eyes off of it.

So the last 20 years there's been an absolute explosion of knife violence throughout the UK committed almost entirely by immigrants.
Naturally what the left takes away from this situation is that Joe Rogan, Andrew Tate, and little white boys are to blame.

The plot and acting was good, but one thing I didn’t care for is the super shaky single-shot camera take. In the past 5 years, there’s been a popular trend for films to have an ultra-refined, super-shaky cinematography style. I get that the intent is to make the show more dramatic, but in my opinion, it ends up making show over-the-top and more dramatic than it needs to be. I seriously wish they would just do away with that shite. It’s cheesy as frick.

We all watch movies and shows differently I guess.
I didn't take away that the purpose was to show incels(adolescent white males) as bad, because I don't think he was meant to be viewed as one by the audience. Did he truly come across as an incel?or was it the messages and his own view of self worth that prompted him believing he was an incel. I watched it and based what he was on the later.
But again we all watch things differently. I remember watching 13 reasons why and thought it opened the door to communication and showed a side that is typically not talked about and others thought it glorified suicide and made it OK as an out.

That’s what I got from the 3rd episode and especially in the last episode with the parents mentioning him doing his own thing on the computer in his room. The parents thinking everything is fine, all the while he’s being molded by social media and the internet culture.

It was inspired by the murder of Elianne Andam who was murderer by Hassan Sentamu.
Out of the 3 stabbings that I read inspired the script there was this one by a non-white stabbing the friend helping his ex-gf during a return of personal items meet up, a male and female stabbing a trans (actually a boy but those involved in show label a girl) which was mostly instigated by the female, and one where the ID of the perp was sealed.
I don’t think first 2 can be classified as true incel cases and don’t know about the 3rd.
A girl getting stabbed in real life was motivation behind that specific aspect of the show, but the reason and the choice of the perp were politically motivated.
There has quickly been an artificial push for this show to be a national message in the UK including by the UK’s PM stating it should be shown in schools. It has become the typical leftist push to belittle young white males and lump any kind of pro male talk or groups including fathers' rights groups and talk of being “red pulled” into the incel or misogyny label (as phobic already over used by them). It’s also supposed to push white parents to view their kids through leftist eyes. As shown by Wikipedo they have even started to link “associated” movements like white supremacy to men’s groups. It’s happening just as the UK’s sentencing guidelines are supposed to shift to becoming unequally harsher for white males than the sentencing of females and other ethnic groups for committing the same crimes.
The one shot filming for each episode is an interesting choice to see actors hold it together for entire shot, but the chosen story should be treated as a fictional one off not a true reflection of a large national UK problem.

Yeah but that's what I'm kind of saying. We were all searching for motive until it came out that he was being told he was. But at first appearance it didn't come across that way until we found out how he felt about his own self worth.

Could it simply be that the co creator wanted to play the father and well, having an 18 year old African immigrant as a son wouldn't really fit?
The show was good, really good. IDC about what the talking heads and politicians want to use it for. Just watch it, it is good.

I really liked the "single shot" style for the first episode, and sort of the third as well. But the other two I thought that style hurt the quality. Especially the one with them driving to/from the store.
The first one worked so well because it showed just how much shite can happen in real time in just an hour. But for the other episodes (especially 2 and 4), it seemed to hold the show back a little bit IMO because it became too hyperfocused on the current time when it felt like they could've maybe fleshed things out a little more/better.
That being said, I really liked the show a lot. And I told my wife our son (5) can't have a phone or social media until he's 30.
A few of the moments in the show have stuck with me the last few days since I watched it.
one was the entire first episode, culminating in the dad watching the clip of his little boy murder some girl, and the grief on his face. And in the same episode, it really stood out to me while watching that he almost literally never touches his son until the end. Like your kid is terrified, and especially before you know what's going on with the video evidence, you don't even give him a hug and try to comfort him? That shite made me uncomfortable to see a dad not even touch his kid.
And the end of the last episode, when the dad and wife are talking about the things they did wrong or could've done better. The daughter is such a good kid and he's like "How did we make her," and the mom says "The same way we made him." That's deep shite right there.
And then right after that at the very end when the dad goes into Jamie's room and breaks down...and tucks in the teddy bear and kisses it on the forehead and says "I'm sorry, son." That shite hit me like a ton of bricks and had me bawling. I can't imagine dealing with something like that as a parent, and I hope and pray I never have to.
The acting in this series was top notch by some of the characters though. Excellent series.

Wow - what a gut punch. Well done - probably deserves some award buzz. Really made me feel the parents’ emotions.

Episode 2 = "The Walk Around Show". More than half the time is spent watching them walk around the school.
