Poor guy. I knew he should have taken that job at Ole Miss.

Hollywood is trash and I haven't stepped foot in a theater in 6 years except for thus stupid arse movie as it was a birthday gift for my step dad. So we all went as a family.

Almost all the movies I have watched later have been older movies I never went to watch or saw on VHS when I was young.

If it is a newer movie it is an indie movie with little Major Studio input.

well aren't you a badass.

WTF this bitch literally had a minor bit part in just one movie and thinks that qualifies her as "being one of the heritage characters and giving 30 years and all that."

well considering he has been Admiral Ackbar since the beginning since Return of the Jedi, i feel like he kinda has a reason to feel that way.

Killing Ackbar with a line of dialogue was just bizarre. It was like Rian was trying to anger the fans

this was the whole angle of TLJ

if you want to sound artsy, it's "deconstruction"

he ruined Ackbar for Tim Rose
Rose has a very interesting relationship with the Ackbar character. I saw an interview with him a few days ago that said when filming ROTJ that they wanted him dancing around celebrating the destruction of the Death Star, but he refused, saying that even though it was a big win, he knew Ackbar would be reflecting on all of the people lost in the fight, and in the war. So while everyone in the background is dancing and celebrating, Ackbar sinks down in his chair.

The writing all around was atrocious but it was a special level of hell bad with her character.

1) She was second or third in command of resistance forces but nobody really knew who she was.

2) She must have been sleeping or playing video games or whatnot during the first two skirmishes of the movie and only appeared after Ackbar was dead and Leia was maybe dead.

3) She refuses to discuss her plan with her assault commander (Poe) who may also now be acting second in command of resistance forces and makes him think she has just serenely accepted inevitable death and defeat in order to teach him a lesson about...not being in such a hurry to fight and kill the enemy? Patience about...something? I don't know.

4) Is shocked when the assault commander and acting second in command concludes that she is crazy and suicidal and attempts a mutiny.

This! They could have fixed this real easily by having a "there must be a mole on the ship" subplot to explain why Dern wouldn't say anything about what she was doing to Poe. Considering that there was a homing beacon aboard so that Rey could find the rebels wherever they were as soon as she was done training with Luke, they missed a key opportunity to have this beacon for their salvation actually be the means by which the First Order was tracking them.

not sure how i got that mixed up, but its an easy mistake

God I had had that purple haired lady out of my memories of Star Wars. WTF was her purpose again? Does anyone even remember her name? What a ridiculous and unnecessary interjection of a character that they portrayed as having some sort of reverence and importance without any buildup.

The weirdest thing about Holdo was there was already a female character in charge of the Rebellion with Mon Mothma who could have easily been leader of the New Republic. Lucas had even cast her for the prequels (though nearly all her scenes were cut and instead ended up on the RotS DVD) and she actually made it into Rouge One. She even looked strikingly similar to the original actress.

One of the worst things Disney did was opening up the cannon to novels, comics, etc. If you only watch the movies, there are things you never realize and seem like huge plot holes.

One of those is that in Chuck Wendig's Aftermath Trilogy, you see that Mon Mothma has assumed the mantle of chancellor of the New Republic. So she is around and leading, but not involved (at least not hands on) with The Resistance.

Mon Mothma (and Ackbar) also made an appearance in the canon novel Lost Stars, so it's not like they aren't part of the new canon.
