Edward Norton as Bruce Banner

After Eric Bana & then for only the 1 movie. It technically was the start of the MCU, coming out before IronMan.

Tom Hanks as a hitman in Road to Perdition before seeing the movie. He wasn't a villain like I thought he might be, but it was still strange to see him killing people

Robert Pattinson as Batman - Because I only knew him from those god awful Twilight movies.

After watching Tenet, I am starting to see how he can pull it off. I still think he's undersized for the role, but he could win us over.

Maybe he'll talk to Matthew McConaughey about how he bulked up for Reign of Fire.

Did anyone see a bad cop movie called Vice. Daryl Hannah looked really nasty in it. I wonderwed if she was thinking it would be her Monster.

Did she think looking greasy was going to add the her resume?

Your Highness

whats worse is that movie came out after Black Swan

"Natalie, you just won an oscar....what are you gonna do next?"

"Ima shite on it"

I’ve read numerous interviews where she has clearly stated she did Your Highness specifically because Black Swam was such an emotionally taxing role she wanted to do something ridiculous to get her out of that place with that character.

Money dear boy.

If the money is there an actor will most likely cheerfully do something even if it is horrifically bad.

Maybe not a great answer but I always found it funny that Brian Cox was in Super Troopers and absolutely killed it.

I was thinking Billy Murray in Lost in Translation as well.

Charlize Theron - Monster
Vince Vaughn - Psycho

TLJ in Men In Black was definitely a surprise as well (though he owned that role).

Tyler Perry as Tanner Bolt (Gone Girl). In a good way.

Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Not in a good way.

ETA...didn't look to see Presidio's post mentioning this, as well.

For me it is Julianne Moore in Boogie Nights.

Yeah, but how famous was she before that?

Without looking it up...small part in "The Big Lebowski"? The doctor that catches Harrison Ford correcting that kid's chart in the elevator in "The Fugitive"?

Pretty sure that role put her on the map for the next decade or so.

She did Nine Months with Hugh Grant and Jurassic Park (The Lost World) before that.

Channing Tatum in Jump Street. Dude kills it in action comedy roles. I never would have expected it. But he owned the role.

Jonah Hill in Maniac. Really unleashed some acting ability.

That came out the same year as Boogie Nights, though. Not sure if that counts.

And, after looking it up, "The Big Lebowski" came out the following year to refute one of my earlier points.

Regardless, it seems like 1997 was the year her career truly broke, she was nominated for an Oscar for "Boogie Nights," after all.
