Actors/Actresses born to play a certain role-

Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson- Conan. Never "really" played him, although Scorpion King was as close as could be without actually saying the name.

Big and buff enough to satisfy all but the most stubborn Arnie fans, and damn if he doesn't look just like all those Frazetta and Marvel Comics images.

While none of us have seen it yet, Martin Freeman was absolutely born to be Bilbo Baggins. Almost exactly how I imagined him reading the Hobbit.

No. Putting an incredible performance across does not mean you were born to play the role. Any given actor is born to play really a single role, not multiple (with the possible exception of Harrison Ford with Indiana and Han). Heath does not look like or seem to act like the Joker in real life in any shape or form. Martin Freeman seems like he'd be Bilbo. Bruce Willis seems like a true John McClaine. Jeff Bridges and John Goodman were born to be the Dude and Walter. That's how it works. No one even remotely recognized Heath as the Joker, so someone else could play him, and hell did and will again.

Sherlock Holmes, no. The essence of the character is completely different from him. Tony Stark, definitely. You'd think it was based off of him. RDJ as Tony Stark is the text book definition of born to portray a role.

this thread should just be renamed, "Lets name some actors and the roles they played!"

Pretty much. This isn't a thread about great performances. People who were born to play the role should be imagined by a good portion of the readers when they're reading the novel. It should be pretty close to how you imagined them initially for them to embody the role. No one imagined Heath Ledger's Joker before it happened, so he obviously wasn't born to play it. Tony Stark though, when you're reading the comics from like 10 years ago, it's clear that's RDJ on page.

First thing I thought of. Also in Casino.

I would add Keanu Reeves in The Matrix. Not the best actor but absolutely perfect for that part.

I agree that Tom Hanks played the role of Forrest Gump better than anyone else could have but if you read the book he is nothing like Winston Groom's Forrest, which the movie didnt really go along with the book.
