Just got out of the movie. That shot with Sam Elliott backing out of the driveway choked me up.

I think the striking cinematography has a lot to do with that. The film just felt more authntic than most.

Yep. As soon as we got that first shot of Cooper on stage at his concert you could tell they got it right.

Yep. Sam Elliot crying is like seeing your Dad cry. You've maybe never seen it before and you sure as hell aren't prepared for it.

Besides the first time Gaga goes on stage and they sing "shallow" the Sam Elliot truck scene is the best sequence in the movie.

That one single, teary-eyed moment alone should win him the Oscar.

That coupled with the "12 notes" speech should definitely win him an Oscar

Before seeing A Star is Born, this has always been Sam Elliot to me:

When are the Oscars? February? Will an interesting time on here. I'm sure a slave or AIDS movie will be put out. Maybe a slave rescued and transported to the future only to contract AIDS.

It'll rack up while Star Is Born wins Best Score or Editing.

Well, the Queen movie and Elton John movie are coming out.

Welcome to Marwen has potential for Steve Carell and Robert Zemeckis.

Vice (the Dick Cheney movie) is out at Christmas. It has Christian Bale.

Widows is already getting a little buzz for Viola Davis and director Steve McQueen.

If this movie doesn't win any oscar it's because of politics.

frickING CRIES in this movie. Has he ever cried in a role?

He was in a movie called "off the map". He plays a character who is in severe depression, so he balls, a lot. Great flick

Why is everyone sleeping on Dice? He was pretty good, too.

Dice was great, but his role was more ancillary to the story than Sam's. Even though they have similar screen time, Sam's character was much more pivotal to the story/emotional weight of the film.

Saw it last night. Really good. Only complaint possible would be what someone said early on in this thread about being chopped up so much. It could have expounded on some stuff and it wouldn’t have bothered me to run a little longer.

Her first time on stage was amazing. I had chills and choked up.

Sam Elliot and the dog punched me in the gut.

My wife was a train wreck a couple times and for the last 30 minutes.

Also, he may have been ridiculously fricked up, but that mf’er nailed the Pretty Woman riff.

The thing that caught me at first...how much Bradley Cooper sounded like Kris Kristofferson when he talked.

Does being the 3rd time a movie has been made play any part in winning an Oscar? I honestly don't know how they feel about remakes when it comes to awards

Each time it's been made it's been an awards contender. Mostly for acting/music. Even the '76 version, which wasn't really critically loved, got noms. I don't think it being a remake will affect it much.
