Can anyone explain to me all the foreshadowing in the House of the Undying?
I know that there is alot and not all of it has been revealed yet, but anything will help.
Read it last night and completely lost me.

Read the rest of the books first. Then come back and we'll discuss.

I've never been more devastated by a chapter or when Arya has a vision of the aftermath. Crushing.

It has been intruding on my thoughts all day. I think I meet criteria for an Acute Stress Disorder. It it persists I will then qualify for PTSD.

I actually threw the book across the room. I've never done that before or since. I really thought GRRM was the biggest bastard in the world after that.
But I read this in like 2001, since then I've begun to see the necessity of the Red Wedding.

It was pretty upsetting. GRRM certainly does not treat those who try to act with honor well. I could understand Ned, guess I will come to understand these as well. Good thing Robb did the royal decree to legitimize Jon Snow before he died (I believe this did get done). Of course, he didn't know Bran and Rickon were alive when he did it, which could lead to some infighting with the Starks down the road.
Now I must leave this thread until I finish the 4th book or else risk spoilers.

I almost did the same thing, I had to back and reread part of it because I could not believe what I read. I put the book down for a couple days. I kinda knew something was going on and going to happen, but I did not think it would end that way. The same way I felt about Ned.

Ok so last weeks episode they said that Tywin lannister ordered the killing of the targaryen children. But I could have sworn that in the book it says that robert ordered it. Is that just the show taking liberties or did Tywin actually order it?

Tywin did not order it, he just did not tell Gregor not to kill them.

But didn't Robert intentionally try to wipe all the targaryen heirs out?
Posted on 6/13/11 at 8:54 am to CottonWasKing
Robert hated them and wanted them dead, but he did not order Tywin to do it. During the rebellion, Tywin called his banners, but he did not fight. There was noway Robert could have ordered Tywin to do anything. He was not king yet.

Even when he was king he had to be careful with the Lannisters.

Tywin ordered the deaths of the Targeryen children to basically prove he was on Robert's side. The Lannisters had come late to Robert's cause, and so needed a convincing show of suppot. The brutality of the murders was all Gregor Clegane and Amory Lorch, however.

Ahhh that's right. I forgot that the lannisters didn't play a huge part in Roberts Rebellion. Tywin was even the mad kings hand for a while, correct?

Yeah, for many years. He quit after Aerys refused to marry Rheagar to Cersei.

When do y'all think dany will actually cross the narrow sea? I honestly can't see it happening until the others break through the wall, isn't that what the prophecy fortells that light will come and push back the darkness. Or something along those lines

I hope she'll be heading that way by the end of ADwD. She's gotta start getting a move on if she wants to make it there before the end of the series.

She may start the voyage at the end of dance but I highly doubt she lands in westeros until at least the 6th book maybe the 7th. Just my thinking anyway. One book of her uniting the 7 kingdoms and one book throwing back the others

I'm still sticking with my goofy theory that he quit because Aerys raped Joanna.
