re: A Prediction Regarding the Mario Movie and Nintendo

After the trailers they've released so far, this movie could be pretty big. It seems to hit all the right nostalgia points perfectly, the animation looks great, the voice cast sounds great, etc. I don't know if I think it could hit a billion (although it's possible), but like the OP says so many people are itching to go see a great movie in theaters that they can just sit back and enjoy without all the extra bullshite that seems to come with movies these days.
But a movie like this has more appeal than even something like Wreck-It-Ralph, which did about half a billion at the box office. And only about $190 million of that was in North America. This one could easily surpass that here, and could be absolutely huge in Asia.

who don’t own the IP
I'm pretty sure Nintendo IP is part of the foundation of the new Epic Universe park in Orlando.
So while they don't own it, they're pretty significant partners/collaborators on it between the movies and the parks. This movie seems to be corporate synergy in action too to get people amped up for the new park opening.

Nintendo and the Japanese don't do cultural Marxist stuff. They stick to traditions and own their IP outright, so Illumination (which is headed by some former Pixar people now, right?)
Will do whatever Nintendo tells them to because this is going to be a gigantic $1.5B type worldwide hit.
It will do Top Gun numbers, even without China, because the rest of the globe is so attached to Mario and that world.
Nintendo is the truest rival to Disney there is if they ever unleashed the full potential of their IP.

Is that when you go on social media tell everyone to cancel culture Apple because you don't share their opinions?
Not familiar with this. What are you talking about?

Assuming Mario isn't a complete moron, it should do well.

If Nintendo was smart, they'd avoid the woke stuff
Japanese culture won't allow a bunch of woke bullshite. I'd look for them to avoid it, it will be a hit with kids.

I hope it does great. Epic Universe kills with the new expansion of Nintendo world and Nintendo returns.

Yeah I could see this being the breakthrough for Nintendo to go on a lighter Marvel type run.

This thing is going to fricking print money.

Nintendo has a chance to create their own universe if it's done well
Posted on 12/2/22 at 6:47 pm to VL Lsutiger
Yeah. They already have a universe, really. They just have to make entertaining movies with it, which they certainly have the resources to do.

I would spend my last dollar to see a Legend of Zelda movie.

The message board mayhem when Link’s voice is revealed might break social media. No way for Nintendo to get that right. Everyone has their own voice in their head for the past 25 years.

Boy are some of you gonna be angry when the movie subverts expectations by having Peach be the one to save Mario when he gets kidnapped.

It would do Sonic level gross.

Well...yes. that would make me angry. No doubt.
No chance Nintendo allows that to happen.

It’s how Nintendo met Illumination and got the idea for this movie, when Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Florida and a couple other locations were announced earlier this year.
It definitely has the potential to be the start of something much, much bigger for Nintendo in the future.

It’s definitely going to happen at some point. In the trailer she has an axe-spear. And it’s fine. She’s been a playable character since Mario 2.
