I thought the episode was brilliant with just enough of the fighting to get what Dunk is about. Raw and first time in battle. This show it’s the mark.

This is where I am too. I wanted more of the trial originally but now seeing it was entirely about Dunk's POV in his first real combat I like where they went with it.

Also, shout out to the best "My boiiiiii" since Cedric Diggory's dad

Only advantage he had was brute strength.

This. He was getting his arse kicked in traditional knightly combat. He got the advantage as soon as it became little more than a 1v1 brawl in the mud. Some big lad "from the streets" would do a lot better in that type of scrap vs a prince who has probably never had to go hand to hand like that.

Disappointed only because I had unreal expectations. I enjoyed the rawness of it. I texted my friend last night and said it felt like I was in the fight, they did a great job of that. I enjoyed the flashback until we had Dunk following Arlan around for 5 minutes. We had young Dunk literally following around a guy we watched get hammered dancing around a fire for almost as long as we had a battle. I could have cut some of that out and see a little more fighting from others.

I usually watch the episodes 2-3 times to see what I miss, definitely want to see the fight scene again because Baelor is fighting 2 people and I wonder if we see him get hit.

I don’t think that was close to the best episode though. We had Egg just yell “Get Up” 50 times, then Dunk get pierced with a lance 8 inches into his stomach, stabbed 4 times with a knife, stabbed twice with a sword, clubbed twice in the head with a mace…I mean he had literally no shot to be alive. Could have done a little less Dunk getting his arse kicked. Then he dies and comes back to life stronger? Still my favorite show on tv at the moment, but the trial of 7 was a little lackluster

Also, if no one was going to help Aerion why the hell did he ask for trial of 7? It became just a 1v1 anyway which Aerion clearly wanted to avoid. Dunk gets hit in the head and face repeatedly, takes his helmet off and no one kills him? Dunk’s side had 2 guys immediately die so there were plenty of free knights to help Aerion

Aerion was cocky enough to think people would just help him no questions asked.

As for the 3 Kingsguard knights, I’m assuming Baelor took care of them at some point because they couldn’t fight against him. And then Aerion’s brother just played dead like he said he would I’m assuming. So with those 4 out, that leaves Maekar and the one other guy that betrayed Dunk

He got his arse beat but it was certainly possible to survive that. It's pretty unreal what the body can take. Wifey tells me all the time of the crazy stab wound victims surviving at the hospital. had a guy not long ago stabbed over 24 times and was out of the hospital in a week.

Why? He's virtually untrained going against someone very much trained. Dunk himself knew he was outmatched. It would have been much more ridiculous for Dunk to have gone in there and not gotten his arse whooped. We don't need Dunk being Superman from his very first fight. Would make for a pretty crappy character if a hedge knight right off the bat in his first scrap is not getting his arse kicked by a Targaryen.

I also expected more of a battle, but I think the way did it actually makes sense. The battle is so disorienting from Dunk's perspective, I don't know that I could take ~5-10 minutes of that.

I do think the flashback was a little long, but it resulted in multiple big payoffs.

Enjoyed, the episode. Glad we finally got some real fighting. I don't mind the flashback, just wish it hadn't taken tight away from the fighting. All the flashback stuff could have been in the episode leading up to the battle.

Also, even though the episodes are list as like 40 min, there's about 10 minutes of other stuff at the end.so, it's more like 30 minutes.

Shad from Shadversity talked about it in a post-show review panel and said it was very realistic, very extreme but still believable.

I'm still pissed that they didn't depict Lyonel as The Laughing Storm. It's one of the most badass character traits I've ever read, and well within Ings' acting ability. I just do not understand that choice by the director.

My biggest complaint was why did he take his helmet off? Seems like a sure fire way to get killed in that situation.

Maybe some different POV's of the fight in the finale? Doubt it but seems like we would have gotten a better shot of the killing blow as well. I guess it's in there but I missed it.

It happens right after Dunk finishes smashing Aerion with the shield. Aerion says "I yield," Dunk stands up and you see a couple of cutaways to other knights fighting. It's the last one of those cutaways, Maekar with a mace right into the back of Baelor's head.

A mace to the back of the head has to be an intentional act to kill, right? Did Maeker want Baelor out of the picture so he could sit on the iron throne?

lack of experience and he couldn't see out of it. That helmet looked far too small and flimsy for his giant head.

In the preview for next week, he doesn't look like a guy who just intentionally killed his brother. He's not in line to be heir anyway.

There were multiple times when Dunk was knocked down by another knight. The combat happened really fast so it may require multiple viewings, but he was knocked down by Maekar and what looks like Steffon. He was also saved twice by Raymund, and at one point you can see that a Kingsguard knight is trying to help but is being held up by fighting Lyonel Baratheon. The fight scenes might take multiple viewings but there was a lot going on.

One of the reason helmets with visors became common, is because most knights after the initial charge would want to lift up their visor. It allowed them more vision, and allowed them to breath easier which is underrated but when you are fighting for your life you use a lot of oxygen so if your breathing is restricted you will wear out faster. Dunk didn’t have a helmet with a visor but at the time he had no choice his vision was too obstructed.
