The weird Jimmy character appeared like. A mystical track suit wearing leprechaun on the wall and the action in the end looked like an r rated mighty morphin power rangers skit
It was like nothing else in the movie

Spoilers
Spoilers
Didn’t like it. The first third was good, they get back to the community, the scared kid sets fire to community scarce supplies, goes out all brave now 1 day after being scared, zombies kinda disappeared, dad doesn’t go out looking for two days despite context clues, then spend a 4th of the movie at the bones with the mom storyline. They say the alpha is smarter but he doesn’t go chase them at night at the start then to top it off they drug the alpha and don’t kill it,

I liked it. Just not the ending. Felt tacked on so they could do a sequel. Would have just rather they finish the story here.
But I’m willing to wait it out and see if Bone Temple can justify it

I didn’t hate it. Gorgeous movie. Some really cool shots. Just one of the main things that I don’t enjoy about Garland movies, he loves to introduce things but not actually really explore or flesh them out. Plagued this movie. Just dances around the peripheral of things. The Alpha, while cool, was just a prop to drive the movie forward. Never really explored. The mom coming out of a dead sleep and going badass killing machine out of nowhere, then never explored again.
Agreed, ending was a big wtf. Was wondering when that kid was going to come back into the movie, but what a weird way to do it and just seemed so out of place, just to add a sequel hook.

I found the movie entertaining but probably the weakest of the three.
[spoilers]
Yes, this part immediately struck me as strange. It isn't even clear whether they did the second time they had a chance, but I assumed they must have.
Editing to add that my issue with the very last scene wasn't as much that it didn't exactly fit with the rest of the film--I can accept that there are weird characters roaming around, even ones that act cartoonishly. But they seemed so careless given how easily you can get infected, not to mention how hard it must be to keep your clothes clean.

I found it OK. Entertaining but so many plot holes....so many

Went and saw this afternoon. Very good movie. Boyle was hitting on all cylinders, very well directed

I didn’t care for it. Thought it was weird.

Went and saw it last night.
I have no idea why it is rated so high. A movie has never made me say "WTF" so many times before this one. The plot was unclear until after the movie ended. A lot of unnecessary ploys and twists. Like why make the dad look good and then turn him into a cheater and child abuser??? Just a strange movie.

Well for one, they were teasing/giving a red herring that he possibly might’ve gotten infected and showing signs of it
Secondly, his son seeing the truth of what his father is, or atleast shattering the idea of what he thought his father was is the entire reason he ends up deciding to go past the walls without his father to get his mother help. Within the story being told that’s a very necessary aspect of the plot.
Now, personally I do think it’s a bit silly that the kid goes from zero experience and almost getting killed instantly with his father passing the walls the first time and pissing his pants every time there’s dangers, to being able to survive days with a very very sick mother of his all the way further into land that originally went, especially when he still somehow has a full arsenal of arrows at the end scene but I’m mostly willing to let stuff like that pass
Felt like a movie that set a lot of cool potential things up, but kind of blue balls you on the real fun stuff until the future installments. Excited for the next one even though I don’t think this was quite a home run

Agreed. Very odd movie. I didn’t care for the weird music in the beginning. It annoyed the hell out of me. Also, the plot was unclear. Lastly, am I the only one that can’t understand deep English accents for the life of me? I needed subtitles. I found myself wondering wtf they were saying multiple times.

Went tonight to see it. My date turned to me at one point and said, it’s a lot of dicks in this movie.
I was like yeah, but to be fair, if I was a shower and not a grower like the alpha, I’d walk around with my dick out all the time too
Wasn’t bad, wasn’t great. Ending was weird and as we walked out, I was like there must be a sequel. Came to this thread and saw the tweet confirming it.

My feelings exactly. There's that clip of Trey Parker and Matt Stone teaching a class on writing and avoiding "and then" stories. That's exactly what this was. And then this happened. And then this happened. And then this happened. There wasn't much depth into the cause and reaction of what is happening, just jumping to the next thing that will happen.
I didn't hate the movie by any means. Just left so much on the table for what it could have been and how phenomenal that first trailer was.

I went in with low expectations due to this thread and was pleasantly surprised. Maybe I just turned my brain off but I enjoyed it and loved Fiennes’ character. The ending was extremely out of place however.

Wouldn't they just thaw out and come after you in the spring? Or I suppose once they are frozen you could just go around removing their heads from their bodies.

There was plenty of good things in the movie for sure. Fiennes was his usual brilliant self. I think the majority of the issues most are having boil down to wasted potential on what could have been witht he things presented, not necessarily that what was done was particuarly bad. Just shallow.

I felt the same exact way.

My three sentence review:
Trailer was a total misdirect on the movie so don't go in expecting it to be like the trailer. I said "what in the world is going on" at least 3 times in the movie. I absolutely loved it and it is the best movie I have seen this year.
