without spoilers can you elaborate?
No, but Alex Garland has certainly become a preachy writer.
For “the meat of the movie” there was a lot of “what is this movie about”. If I had to guess, this wasn’t Danny Boyle’s cut.

Also, I hope you all enjoy seeing dicks. A lot of dicks. Big dicks. Small dicks. A dick buffet.

This board is going to hate this movie
I’ll admit it’s “artsy” to the point of being pretentious and has some bizarre scenes but hell I liked it. I didn’t want another run of the mill zombie movie and it’s definitely not that. The alpha chase scene over the bridge was an all timer for me. Also, I didn’t realize a 4th one is coming out in January that was filmed back to back. Interested to see where it goes
No mention of anybody being immune like the kid in the 2nd one unless they’re saving that for the 4th. At the end of the 2nd it shows the virus spreading to Paris but it says at the beginning of this one it was pushed back from spreading through Europe and is quarantined to the UK

That does better explain the end (and beginning), though it still felt like an afterthought

I thought it was incredible.
That ending was beyond bizarre though

I’ll be interested to see the audience score. I think it’s going to be pretty low with a lot of people not knowing what they’re getting into with Alex Garland and expecting a normal zombie movie

Yeah that was 23 years ago. Not all his movies are weird, Warfare was pretty straight forward. But Civil War threw a lot of people off with how misleading the trailer was and how “different” it ended up being. Annihilation and Ex Machina are out there. Dont get me wrong I love all his work. He wrote The Beach which is an all time favorite guilty pleasure movie of mine. I just think casual movie goers expecting a “dawn of the dead” style zombie movie are going to be like “wtf”
Something else I forgot to mention is Ralph Fiennes was great as always

Tried to watch it but some fat black lady kept talking during the film so will have to come back and see it another time. I politely told her to stop talking, which regrettably came with quite the backlash of which I expected but pleasantly hoped would not occur. The fatigue...

Yeah. He's great

I think it's one of those movies that everybody would either love or hate, with little in between.
Really, I think that most people (including me) would hate the movie, but the type of people who enjoy seeing zombie movies are the type of people who will see this movie.

This is the consensus I’m seeing. Going to check it out tomorrow

Man, I am pretty mixed. A lot of this movie I didn’t like. And then some of it was good. But that ending was a big frick you to the audience.

He was great. I hate trying to spell his name. His presence in everything is good.
The more I think about the movie though, the more I dislike it

This movie was horrible
Almost zero redeeming qualities aside from the Fiennes character
Do yourself a favor and skip it

I didn’t think it was horrible but it didn’t go in the direction I assumed judging by the trailer. It felt like they had a ton of material to work with and didn’t really get to the meat of anything. In fact it felt like a bunch of well filmed but completely random scenes tied together
The ending was incredibly strange. My optimistic take is that the second release in 2026 ties it together but it left a lot on the table.
Also reflecting on it kind of hilarious how few died but makes sense given there wasn’t much of a mainland/island divide the trailers seemed to hint at

This is how I feel. Initially walking out I was satisfied but after reflecting on it I’m a little disappointed.
It’s also one of maybe two movies this entire year I’m excited about so I’m trying to take into consideration I set a really high bar

I keep thinking about it, and I keep thinking Garland probably wears a shirt that says “feminist”
