Four listens in and I am really digging it. A little too early to see how it compares to the greatness of Alligator or Boxer, but I have a feeling this will end up as my album of the year.

This has already been an awesome year for music. It's hard to pin any one album down as the best, given these releases so far:

The Monitor - Titus Andronicus
The Courage of Others - Midlake
Astro Coast - Surfer Blood
Romance is Boring - Los Campesinos!
Winter of Mixed Drink - Frightened Rabbit
The Big To Do - Drive By Truckers

And that's not counting pretty good releases by BRMC, Alkaline Trio, Motion City Soundtrack, and Clem Snide. And we still have albums from the Hold Steady, the New Pornographers, and the Black Keys to come. Really, this has been the best year of music in a while and its only April.

And Dr. Dog. That's been my favorite album so far.

There's a streaming version of Hold Steady's new one as well. A little different, but seems solid so far.

Haven't gotten Dr. Dog or Kate Nash. Another two to put on the list.

Right now, I'd put either Titus Andronicus or Frightened Rabbit as the leader in the clubhouse. But the sheer amount of great music this year has been thrilling, particularly after the shitstorm that was last year.

This album is going the be rediculous. Can't wait. This band is so easy to listen to and the songs just scream "were badass".

I enjoyed both of these.

2009 was a weird year for sure, but there were some decent albums.

Isn't Okkervil River releasing again as well this year?

Just can't get mysely to really like her. I have quite a bit on my iPod but I seem to change the song everytime Nash comes on. It's no Rilo Kiley Imo.

I didn't mind 09. Manchestar Orchestra, The Features, BRAND NEW, third eye blind, Dawes, the avett brothers, Josh Ritter, Phoenix, passion pit... Just some I really liked off the top of my head.

You listed only two albums I liked: the Avetts and Dawes. And it wasn't the Avetts best album by a longshot.

There were some decent albums in 2009, but as a rule, it was a shitastic year for music. The only great album of 2009 IMNSHO was the Low Anthem's O My God Charlie Darwin. Or TMBG's Here Comes Science cuz who doesn't love children's albums?

I thought 2009 was pretty good. I liked it more than 2008. My favorite 2009 release was Sunset Rubdown- Dragonslayer which I thought was a great album. One of my favorites of last decade.

Some other 2009 albums I really liked were Animal Collective, Ramona Falls, Grizzly Bear, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Phoenix, Built to Spill, Clues, The Flamings Lips, Wilco

+1

The new Apples in Stereo is some quality ELO/disco pop, some of thier catchiest music yet IMO. I was underwhelmed by Broken Social Scene's new album, but it might have been I just had too high of expectations going into it.

Love the new National songs, and great writeup.

Great easy Sunday music while reading. Like Nick Drake, Lloyd Cole, Blue Nile,etc..

Seaward, I'm now on my third full listen, and it keeps getting better each time..

Definitely an early album of the year contender.
