Wrong

Saw it twice in the theater. Wasn’t fast paced but great story IMO and cinematography was why I had to see it twice.

1917 is very comparable to Dunkirk or The Revenant, if you didn't see it in theaters it won't resonate nearly as much. Films that visual and intense need to be seen on the big screen or almost not at all.

In saying that, I think 1917 was not as good as those other two "experience" films because WWI is just such a damn depressing subject matter.

I thought Tolkien was a better WW1 movie than 1917.

I wasn’t crazy about it either. It was beautiful to look at. The sets, cinematography etc. sound, all that but I just thought the actual story was lame. It reminded me of Dunkirk. I did not get a feeling of the enormity of it all.

It was well made but could have been better.

At least Tolkien was based on real events, and gave context to how the writer was inspired to work in his life experiences to his book.

His 3 friends formed the 4 Hobbits from The Fellowship.

guess not everyone was able to grasp that.

It’s good. Nothing great but was decent. I think people overhyped it on here tho

Enjoyed it more than Dunkirk. The problem is the best shot of the movie, the scene where he is running perpendicular to the charging soldiers with the explosions was already spammed all over the marketing and ads for the film, so I already knew it was coming when he got out of the trench.
