It is my understanding that 2 years are guarenteed, years 3 and 4 are team options, and year 5 is a qualifying year.

In theory yes. But it’s a lot more complicated than that.

He becomes a RFA after his 4th year, and anyone that signs him, the Pelicans can just match it. He would have to sign the Qualifying Offer, sign with no one, and he can become a FA after his 5th year, but the team he signs with will have to sign him with space, won’t have bird rights, and it will be a much smaller deal.

No player of similar ilk except Porzingis has ever done it. For many many reasons.

He’s not going to do that. Sorry.

If Zion is smart he'll learn from the AD fiasco. Small market teams are fine if they have good management, but NO doesn't have good management. He should go back to Duke or play for Pop and the National team. You could tell he didn't want to go to NO.

OP= good

Thread devolving into an arguement about NBA contracts is disappointing.

I had to google the original image to determine if they photoshopped the face or not.

Sure guy. Live in whatever delusional world you want to live in. The rest of us will play in reality.

Cool, so he'll likely get drafted next year by Phoenix or New York or Chicago or...the Pels again...all of those teams with good management?

No, but NY is a big market with the potential to get pieces around him. Kyrie and Durant have been linked to NY. NO has the same problem ATL has and that's no big name free agent wants to go there. If NO was smart they'd trade AD and Zion (if he tells them he won't play there). They'd get enough pieces and draft picks to be set for years without tanking. It was obvious Zion didn't want NO and we've already seen this play out with AD. While Zion could be a short remedy for ticket sales, flipping both AD and Zion would set up NO for the future.
Off topic, but I actually think Morant would be a better fit for PHX than Zion.

They've had that potential for the last 20 years...how'd that work out?

And if they go there, NYK won't be the #1 pick to get Zion next season.

What free agents wanted to go to San Antonio 20 years ago? What free agents were dying to go to Golden State before 5 years ago?

Except there isn't a feasible deal with a team to get both players. You'd essentially have to have a playoff team give up the bulk of their good players, it just won't work.

Major overreaction to last night...major.

First, my point is that NY can get big name free agents that NO can’t. Second, SA and GS both have good management. NO management failed CP3 and AD. Lastly, you don’t have to trade both to the same team. Could deal one to the Celtics for Tatum, smart, and picks, while sending the other to LA for kuzma, Ingram, and picks. They could also see if philly is interested and come away with Ben Simmons and/or Embiid. Getting any 2 of those 3 instantly turns around NO’s roster and gives them picks for the future. Plus they could get rid of any bad contacts in these trades. We can agree to disagree about Zion not wanting to be in NO, but NO is sitting on a potential gold mine right now with AD and the Zion pick. It would be dumb to rent Zion if he didn’t want to play there when he could net them so much value.

This jabroni is trolling you. Dont respond. He knows that the Knicks have been a shite show over the last 10 years, and that the Pels have revamped the front office structure and hired a respected guy to run the front office.

If they had good management, maybe. AD is a superstar and how is that going? My idea hinges on the fact that Zion doesn’t want to play in NO. For the sake of argument, let’s say I’m right. If so, would you then make the trades or call Zion’s bluff and hope he doesn’t pull an Eli/Dominique? He still has options of forgoing the draft and him staying in NO if he doesn’t want to be there is unlikely.
