Getting lots of text this morning about Zachary and Liberty ending their game in a brawl last night? Anyone got info? The LHSAA sent out multiple memo's this year about fighting and how it would result in loss of playoff appearance so lets see if they punish them or not.

There is video of people running on the court, but I don't know how to post.

I am sure some young men were just having a spirited discussion about protons and neutrons and it got a little out of hand. Nothing to see here.

And yes, if you take playoff berths away from teams, that might be the only deterrent to such behavior...but in the heat of the moment kids don't think about stuff like that. They just want to "keep it real" and not be "disrespected"

The place was packed, standing room only, multiple Liberty fans were ejected during the game.. both teams had a ton of fouls, Liberty had like 20 fouls in the 1st half alone, so the fans are arguing the whole time with the refs about fouls...fans basically standing a foot or 2 from court arguing with the refs... Zach was whooping Liberty, the only player on Liberty who could do anything was the PG... With 3-4 min to go in the game, Liberty down almost 20, Liberty shoots a 3, misses.. Zach kid ends up on the ground, Liberty kid stands over him (Iverson Tyron Lue style).. Zach kid gets up while still being straddled, those kids begin to push and the Liberty bench (and kids behind it) immediately run on court and start swinging.... then Zach players and tons of fans follow not long after... Refs were getting surrounded and yelled at by Liberty fans... called the game and had to have 3 police escort the refs out.

I’m truly shocked that there enough people willing to be officials & umpires in school sports now with the climate of Idiocracy that we are living in. It’s sad where we are at in this country.

HS base and softball are much more mundane. Football is too for the most part, The LHSAA lowering the boom on some for football brawls is a huge factor. basketball is different for officials, because of close proximity to crowd and no barriers.

again the LHSAA or any state association needs to continue lowering the boom when this happens.

That must have been a sight...when the girls brawl, it is personal and they play for keeps.

Any fan that close and arguing with refs should have been removed, game management as well as any game security know that rule(with much added teeth this year) I don't do basketball nor would I. Stop the game, DQ offending players, coaches and have game management remove any and every fan in violation. It is the only way to stop this. THat and cancelling the rest of the season for guilty, removing home games and or post season.

Here’s a problem though. What if one team isn’t gonna make the playoffs and one might and they get into it?

We had a fight like that that I thought was gonna end our season. Luckily it didn’t (probably because it was more fans and not much in terms of kids or refs involved), but I would have hated for the other team to lose their spot in the playoffs over it

the new rules allow for punishment(s) to carry over into the next season.

I refereed all throughout college and thoroughly enjoyed it. Have thought about becoming a ref for LHSAA and then I remember that I live in BR and would be dealing with bullshite like this and the thought quickly leaves my mind

I don’t understand the mentality of the fans that immediately run on to the court to brawl.

Sad state of affairs.

I have been keeping up with local basketball for a while now.. Liberty fans are the worst (White Castle is up there) and it comes from the top down.... even this year at the Catholic game a Liberty Asst Coach got in to with the CHS head coach at halftime, police had to intervene.. also for a school so new the Gym is terrible.. you have to walk in front of the benches to get in the stands on one side...then the other side fans are basically sitting on the court yelling at the refs the whole game... only 1 scoreboard lights up, so the visitors have no scoreboard the 2nd half.. and the 1 working scoreboard cuts out 3-5 times a game, game has to be stopped, reboot scoreboard, reenter the time, score & fouls

Not surprised though.

It's actually problematic nationwide with hoops in particular. BR isn't nearly as bad as some urban areas. Curious as to how the LHSAA handles this one. As both would be pretty high seeds if the playoffs started today.
