You're leaving out the fact that by signing Ohtani, Sasaki and Yamamoto the dodgers were able to secure corporate sponsorship from several Japanese companies to the tune of about $200 million last year alone. The Dodgers knew if they signed Ohtani the income from these japanese sponsorships would more than pay for his huge contract which is why they were willing to pay as much as they did. Other MLB teams also knew this but weren't willing to fork over the upfront money. Boo Hoo......

That was a no brainer, specifically with Ohtani.

The Dodgers would have matched anything they offered - and definitely for Ohtani - who brings in the most $$$. Plus the Japanese players prefer the west coast and all things being equal would almost always pick LA.
Cohen and one or two others might have been able to try and match - nobody else really could and realistically their chances were small even if they did. It's absolutely not as simple as they had their chance.

They are literally buying championships. At least the Astros cheated the right way they tried to hide their cheating. The Dodgers are cheating in plain sight.

I see you are a Gator fan - in my opinion it absolutely is. I'm still astounded he's walking around unscathed by this. I don't believe for one second this is all fabricated - I do believe Florida has some generous boosters that were complicit in help making it seem so.

Agreed.
It can be a high cap, but the disparity is just too high and it kills all sense of parity. It will kill the league.

Nothing to do with playing in the 2nd biggest media market in the league and thus being able to command a $330M per year local TV rights deal, while the MLB median is around $60M a year
Jerry Jones would probably have 10 Super Bowl rings by now if he was allowed to sell his own media rights and spend as much as he wanted on the roster with no salary cap. Would we suddenly be saying that Jerruh is the world's greatest GM and football mind?

And there is a lot of nuance in the good fortune and timing of the contract, how much of it was great business acumen is absolutely debatable.
They also got a unique bankruptcy court ruling years ago that puts a cap on the amount of revenue sharing they have to share in that just another stroke of good fortune in their favor.
Nobody was holding the Dodgers up as a model franchise before the t.v. contract, they were very much in line with how other franchises operated. But since they got this monopoly money it makes it much, much easier.
