That's why the Yankees have never really pursued him, they didn't think he could handle the media and what not and a reason why he has enjoyed more low key places

Man, Game 3 is setting up to be a crazy one with Cole going against Severino in the Bronx.

This is the game the Astros prob need to steal (much like Game 1 for NY) of the 3 in the Bronx. Best chance to do it for sure, then have a chance to go Verlander/Cole in 6/7.

Yankees fan here. My pre-series prediction...Yankees win games 1, 4 and 5, Astros win 3, 6, and 7 and game 2 would be the swing game. I don't think the Yankees would have a problem with Grinke or the Game 5 guy, but would probably lose all 4 vs. Cole/JV. I thought the best chance to steal a game off the Cole/JV combo would be Game 2. Paxton was our best pitcher in the 2nd half so I thought maybe the Yankees could ride out JV and be down 2-1 or 3-2 and they could steal it from the bullpen in the end. I don't think the Yankees have the bats to beat Cole (who does) and JV will only get tougher when he's facing elimination in game 6. When the Yanks get in pressure situations (like facing JV/Cole for a spot in the world series or elimination) they tend to press which plays right into JV's game.

I think it's possible Cole ends up with, at the worst, a stat line of 5IP 4ER.

That's good enough to beat the Astros at their current level on offense.

As of now, at this moment, the series is still the Yankees to lose. They're swinging the bat well and shutting down the Astros.

The Astros are going to have to score more than 5 runs in a game to win at some point if they want to win this series.

Yea, we can only hope some of the hard hit balls find gaps in the bronx and not outfielders like they did last night. I feel like last night should have been like a 5-2 final in 9.

Correa may get going, and Springer had a big HR. If those 2 are batting well, it may be time to flip Yordan and Correa in the lineup. Alvarez is looking like a rookie (still a damn talented rookie but a rookie), and Correa may need to be more middle of this lineup

Greinke is the game 5 guy, most likely.

I think game 4 is the swing game. Unlikely that the Astros will win all 4 JV/Cole starts so they need to steal one somewhere.

I cant imagine a scenario where the Astros win a game 4 with Urquidy on the hill. I think best case could be 5 innings pitched and a few runs on the board. With how his pitch count rises quickly and his emotions will be running high, I think it would be a lot to expect to win that game.

Game 4 will be a bullpen game for the Yankees as well. Not saying it’s likely but definitely possible. I know today is an off day but I think they really need some length from Severino tomorrow with how much they used their pen yesterday and how much they’re likely to in Game 4

I admittedly have not followed Severino's starts with the Yankees since his return, but he always seemed to struggle with pitch count early, ala LMJ.

He was close to 80 pitches in the 4th inning vs Twins, so I think with some patience, we could really put a burden on their bullpen with Verlander and Cole pretty much guaranteed to give you 7+ innings, this could be an advantage.

Unlikely the Astros win all four JV/Cole starts

This is a great take. I think 3-1 for the JV-Cole combo is reasonable, considering we are already 1-0 in such games. I am really banking on Game 3 (and I don’t think it’s me being greedy) being one of the JV/Cole wins.

The Astros have to find a way to win either Game 4 or 5. With a Game 3 win, that will put us up 3-2 heading back to HOU.

Why? maybe the Astros unload for 15 hits and 12 runs that day, and a 4 IP, 5ER stat line is fine. Not saying it will happen but completely possible

We are going to have seen their bullpen a lot by game 4. I’m not counting anything out. Overexposure is real

He hasn’t worked more than 5 innings since returning this year. If you look at this playoff starts they’ve all typically been short too.

I also fully believe in overexposure for a bullpen, the same way seeing a starter the third time through an order works.

My guess is that 127 of them were first pitch, non-swinging strikes

I'm an optimist, and have seen this team go from doing nothing 5 games in a row to scoring 45 runs in 3 days.

Boone seemed to be running the script the Rays used. Different pitcher every time through the order so nobody gets a chance to settle in. It worked reasonably well for them (3/28) but I don't think the Yankees have the same level of variation (lefty/right, speed, pitch types) that they Rays do.

Agreed. The more the Damn Yankees go to their bullpen and don't get their starter past 4-5 innings, they more the advantage goes to the Astros who will then become more and more familiar with the Yankee bullpen. Even ARod, Yankee lover, said this on the postgame last night. Plus it's 3 games in 3 days. If they go to their bullpen often, it will be some tired arms coming from the pen.
