It's just awkward banter when they're trying to be funny, just show us what happened on the day before for goodness sake

Exactly. Hell, this morning they were showing the damn dog show highlights and the only CBB highlight I saw in 30 minutes was during "Standing O" and it was the Miss St buzzer beater.

DIS is a steal right now after it tanked 20%. Iger is one of the best CEOs in business and you'll be happy you have a stake in it in 10 years. However, ESPN will be the ultimate headwind for the company. You cannot deny that.

Maybe you should eat fresh at Subway and complain to Mike and Mike about it in the Coors's Light Cold Hard Facts segment.

M&M spent 30+ minutes this morning discussing a "very serious and troubling issue". They sat there and got all sensitive about RR appearance on Ellen yesterday in which she mentioned thinking of suicide. Greenberg brought in his own bouts with depression to a lesser extent but it was pure Psychology 101. On a sport show.

During baseball season, MLB.tv had great 2-4 minute recaps for each game.

Yeah I do watch Quick Pitch. Also NBA Gametime on NBATV is solid for the basketball fans in here. There's just a lack of College sports content

As more viewers opt to pay less for cable — or cut the cord altogether

I would think that would have minimal impact on ESPN as their basic channels come with all basic cable/dish subscriptions. And, if you sign up for some of the streaming channels (Sling jumps to mind) you still get ESPN and can utilize the Watch ESPN app.

Additionally, I know a handful of people that pay for the Watch ESPN app just during college baseball season since most football games can be viewed over your local broadcasts.

Here's a great article regarding the revamp of the AM Sportscenter

LINK

quote:

Overall, the show structure needs work. The 8 AM hour is labeled the “top hour,” which makes me question why I was watching at 7 AM. Each anchor gives his/her top play, though the Top 10 Plays don’t occur until the end of the final hour. During the 7 AM hour, there are “Morning Mention” and “Standing O” segments, shorter blurbs that aggregate important stories and highlights in a rapid fire setup, but they are not branded as such on the rundown. If they get their own graphics, why not keep the branding on the left column? These work well when I only have a few minutes to get my sports news before heading off to start the day. Too bad this is only a one-time segment across the three hours and does not really repeat later on. And that is where SportsCenter: AM is in an identity crisis when looking at the whole. Is it a three-hour show or three one-hour shows? Being in the middle makes it confusing and clunky. Sometimes, highlights are repeated multiple times within an hour while others do not show up until later on. ESPN’s official release designates three separate hours, but they all tend to lead off the same and don’t feel markedly different.

I bought in only after it dropped to the mid-$90's on fears on cord cutting. ESPN is going to be fine in any scenario. Disney has grown revenue and earnings every year for a decade plus and will continue doing so.
I hope Disney/ESPN goes bankrupt and you lose all your money

nothing personal

Actually, ESPN continues to mint money. Look at a financial statement. Disney just reported last week. ESPN is ridiculously profitable.

From the financial statement

quote:

...operating income decreased 5% to $1.2 billion due to a decrease at ESPN and lower equity income from A&E, partially offset by growth at the domestic Disney Channels.

The decrease at ESPN was due to higher programming costs, partially offset by an increase in advertising and affiliate revenues.

They've started relying heavily on the niche shite. "SC Stars" and the saturation of feel-good pieces have made it decline.

I watch it every now and then but they have gone away from what I loved about it. The damn highlights. Have all the commentary you want BUT give me some damn highlights. They've gone away from what a shortstop did on the field to which model he's banging now. It sucks.

Unfortunately, a highlights show isn't really in much demand anymore.

Because of easy access to the internet and the birth of the social media era, we are getting the results and highlights of our favorite contest long before you reach the morning, evening, and nightly sportcenter shows. We can obtain any bit of information within seconds.

Espn has had to take their flagship show and revolve it around analysis and the hot takes of the games you have already gotten the results for hours ago.

Ultimately, ESPN's adaptation is the product of change from a new social media era we have embarked on.
