Would you had rather seen Kerry Wood’s 1-hit, 20K game or Edwin’s 149 pitch, 8 walk no-no?

Had this conversation in my group text and I was pretty much the only person that said Edwin and so I’m just curious what others think.

Wood’s performance ranks no. 1 all-time in Bill James’ game score metric at 105, despite giving up a hit.

In comparison, the no. 2 guy is Scherzer when he K’d 17 against the Mets in a no-hitter in 2015 which scored a 104.

If you can’t remember Edwin’s game, then you missed a wild ride.

Dude threw 149 pitches, which would probably get a manager fired today, and walked eight while striking out six. He threw 79 strikes and only 17 were swings and misses.

I would had rather seen Edwin’s game just because of how wild it was from top to bottom. A 1-0 win and the guy looked like he was going to crack from the get-go. He managed to keep his head despite four walks and a wild pitch in the first two innings and then gave no fricks about a pitch count.

A 149 pitch no-hitter with only 8 walks is crazy to think about.

That's a TON of action in the field.

Curiosity about the walks and the opponent aside, I’d rather have seen Wood’s game. Give me a crisp, well-pitched game over a walk-fest any day.

Wood. That was pure and complete dominance.

It wasn't really a walk-fest. 149 pitches to 36 batters and 8 walks with 6 strike outs means a ton of balls put in play. 21 outs in the field.

I didn't see it so not sure, but it also could be a bunch of boring pop ups. 0 runs scored too.

Wood

There have been 303 no hitters in MLB history. Less than ten 20 K games.

I like a game with a lot of balls in play if there are a lot of hits and not a lot of walks and deep counts. Eight walks for one pitcher is a lot.

Wood was so dominant that I’m sure the game flowed. Shane Reynolds pitched a complete game and lost and the game went 2:19. Even allowing for Reynolds giving up eight hits and and two walks with 10Ks, that seems like a crisp, well-paced game.

Woods, and it isn't even close. To watch a pitcher dominate in that fashion would be a site to see. It is something that really is not appreciated in today's sports.

Neither. I watched AJ Burnett throw a no-hitter walking 9 hitters and it sucked. As Crash Davis said, "Strikeouts are facist". Hitting a baseball is the most diffficult thing to do in all of sports. Fans like to see hitters succeed.

How long did it take for people to understand the greatness they were witnessing in Wood's 20k game?

I was in attendance for Mark Pryor's 16K game and that was fun to see. So, for something different, I'll vote for Edwin's game.

I think you meant to say with only 5 strikeouts is crazy.

8 walks is not ONLY. That's a shitload of walks.
