The fans, students, bands, and stadium atmospheres is what makes college football great and sets it apart from the NFL.
TV ratings will suck too because of the time difference. Either they’re playing games at midnight Saudi time or US fans in the mountain and pacific time zones will be watching football with their morning coffee
quote:Apples and oranges. World Cup is once every 4 years and you have one team that the entire country is rooting for compared to college football team loyalties being split among 130+ different schools. You can get enough fans to travel when you have the entire country to pull from for WC or Olympics. You won’t have that for a college football game where the fan bases are very localized.
Would fans actually go? I assume yes. Given they went to the World Cup and appear to go to the other events. I assume enough college football fans would go?

[other school]'s fans might be stupid enough to do that, and good riddance to them.

I lived in San Diego and I wouldn't even go to the bowl games. Not a chance in hell I'd go to Saudi for any game.

Athens to the Sugar Bowl is the extent of most fans travel plans...

Not for CFB but will go when the Jeddah Tower is completed.

Fans are willing to sit outside in late December in Yankee stadium for the fricking pinstripe bowl. And Dublin has already answered the international question. It wouldn’t be for every fanbase, as many could be problematic mixing with the locals and wouldn’t even be welcomed, but for liberal, high socioeconomic fanbases? Why not

I’m basically at the breaking point of caring at all about college football as are many people I know who were all former rabid fans.

We were given a heads up when executions were supposed to happen and told to avoid that area on the days the executions were to happen.

If the money is right, they will own whatever leagues/teams they want.
The uniforms are ripe for advertising beyond Nike/Adidas/InderArmour.
Everything in college football with be monetized to the hilt. It’s already happening.

Check the attendance numbers.

Most of the people in attendance at those games are from the UK where the NFL has been having games for decades. Plus it is significantly more palatable for Americans to visit Dublin than it is for them to visit Saudi Arabia for a multitude of reasons.

What's the capacity of Yankee stadium?
Geopolitically, it doesn't make sense as the US wants to limit USD from public circulation in Saudi as WWE/LIV is only a thing because KSA has nothing left to spend dollars/trade oil for but entertainment at this point

Sadly Saudis are buying up our sports. They funded 9-11 so now this.

I already boycott wrestling when WWE starts building for Saudi events (like right now) - I will absolutely walk away from pro sports if they start bending the knee to the Saudis.

Saudi investment money is only ever a when not an if.
Domestic Soccer has been able to slightly shield from it because of finance rules, but they have still had success with the Saudi league and investing in clubs, just not as quick as they could have with no regulation.
There's just too much money on offer for people to continue to say no.
