Forget an upset, just give me a close game.

I’d rather a 40 point blowout than a million whistles trying to force a close game like this one has been

A bunch of 1s and 2s in the Elite 8 should make for a good back end.

Right, but is this the future with NIL and the portal?

I don't watch college bb regularl season anymore, but always watch the tourney. I have already moved on tonight. Will start tomorrow, but my interest is waning.

10 seed Arkansas probably has more blue chip players on their roster than any team left. "Cinderella"

Not to mention they knocked out the token high-seeded feel-good story of the season in St. John's.

Not terribly interesting, and kind of checked out.

The exact opposite thing people claim is happening in college football and people say this is result of NIL. "SEC not winning 2 nati's in a row is because NIL." "Teams like SMU, Indiana, ND and PSU going further is because NIL." So which is it, does it give lesser teams a chance or make better teams better?

My current opinion:

Football never had a tourney where senior loaded mid-majors could upset freshman/sophomore talent laden power conference teams. Now those mid-major stars are a being poached to consolidate talent in bb eliminating the Cinderellas.

In football the teams you mentioned wouldn't have been part of previous playoffs, but also benefit from buying talent and none won the championship.

Also in bb a couple of players can change a team in ways that don't translate to fb.

Tldr: it is a consolidation of talent in P4 teams that is having opposite effects in football and basketball due to the different formats for selecting the champ and the impact a couple of players can have in one vs the other.

I argued this point in another thread, but I’ll repeat here.

SMU benefitted from playing in a shockingly weak ACC. The Big 12 has a power vaccuum with no blue bloods in that conference with Texas and Oklahoma leaving and remaining teams merging with the PAC-12 leftovers. Indiana got about as easy of a draw as possible for a Big Ten schedule and lost the only 2 games they played vs ranked opponents. The only reason either of them were still being talked about in November as playoff hopeful teams was because of the expansion to a 12 team field. Its not that unusual for 1 or 2 traditional mid-bottom tier P4 teams a year to have unexpectedly great seasons and finish at or near the top 10. Only thing that made it different last year was that now those kinds of teams are in playoff contention going 10-2 in a P4

Last year’s unusual teams in playoff contention was more to do with conference realignment and playoff field expansion than more parity created by NIL

It’s pretty boring, to be honest.

The first two games tonight were awful. Ark and Tx Tech not much better. The Duke game might be ok

There's only 3-4 really good teams in college basketball this year. Everyone else is just average. (Duke, Florida, Bama)

Houston and Auburn are overrated

I guess it depends on whether or not your team is still in it.
