I was thinking about this after Pat Riley recently gave Spoelstra a big extension. I have to say it's either him or Paul Westhead.

Leaning slightly toward Spoelstra. Because Westhead may have been a good coach with the lakers even though he was awful everywhere else. Spoelstra on the other hand was a god awful even when he was winning 2 championships. All of the success occurred in spite of Spoelstra.

The last 2 years Spoelsta has had 2/3 of the Big 3 and finished with 38-44 and 45-37. Reread that sentence. Let that sink in. Now of course Wade is gone.

Even when Lebron was in Miami I always thought Spoelstra cost the team 5-10 regular season wins every year.

Bosh and Wade are shells of their former self. I'm not saying that Spo isn't a bad coach, I just don't think Wade and Bosh are even a very good 1-2 punch right now.

Considering the number of 60+ win teams that either lost the Finals, or didn't make the finals, this is kinda irrelevant.

His moderate success this season without LeBron would be the only reason why he would not be my one and only answer. Winning 48 games and reaching the conference semifinals with an aging Dwyane Wade is a pretty impressive accomplishment, even if it's in the East.

Westhead is probably a good answer. He has a career winning percentage of only .450, and he missed the postseason in 3/5 of his full seasons as an NBA head coach.

Did you forget that Bosh missed 67 games with a serious health scare, and Wade missed 20 the first year without Lebron?

Umm Wade was a disaster a year ago and Bosh only played 44 games that season. That is only year Spo has ever missed the playoffs.

Lost Bosh again last season, they were actually 48-34 (3rd best in East), lost Whiteside in the postseason, and nearly made it the ECF playing Justice Winslow at C.

The idea that Spo is a bad coach is just hilarious.

If we want to talk about current guys with rings, Doc is the worst.

Dafuq?

He took basically a community college to the Elite 8 (without his best player).

Only the National Champs and one of the greatest teams ever beat them.

He also won a WNBA championship.

I guess if his name was Geno, everyone would platz.

I think you're way off. Spoelstra is a very good coach. He had LeBron playing at the highest efficiency level of his life. He maximized the big 3. Got them to play the best defense in the NBA for that stretch, and completely reconfigured the system from year 1 to year 2 of the LeBron era. All that took balls. He worked his way up from a film assistant to the seat he's at. Dude knows his shite. He's by far the best coach Lebron ever had. The Heat's lack of depth and competent big men outside of Bosh cost them 5-10 regular season wins every year.

Lue on the other hand is definitely a candidate. So is Doc.

I think we can all agree that Mike Brown is the worst coach ever to win a conference title though.

It's amazing that Doc has fallen so far. After the 2010 finals everyone would've had him as a top three coach.

Without Pierce, KG, Allen, and Rondo creating good looks his offense is just wildly inconsistent and he has CP3 running the show.

Also, pre-LeBron in year 1 he had
Chalmers / Dwade / James Jones / Haslem / Jermaine ONeal as a 5seed, not bad.............ONeal had a game 5 concussion vs Hawks and they lost in 1st rd in 7g.

Spoelstra is a good coach. Don't know why you think he isn't.

Then embarrasses himself every time he starts his show of denouncing Sterling because it smacks so much of obvious hypocrisy and every one is laughing at him because of it.

It's Paul Westhead easily. His Nuggets team once gave up 107 points in a half and allowed 130 PPG for the whole season. Plus how bad do you have to be to piss off Magic Johnson after winning a championship with him? Magic was a great teammate and one of the most unselfish players to ever play the game. He's not going to run a coach out of town unless he though he was really, really bad.
