That's awesome. Baseball badly needs another star they can market like him
Jeter wasn't too far behind.
Ichiro as well, especially in terms of west coast markets.
I could see Bryant taking the role.

That's a good point, I'm not even sure if he was behind or if I just wasn't a kid that tried to gobble up anything baseball by the time he was the face of the game.
I'd also like to see baseball push McCutchen more.

I have three Ken Griffey Jr. shirts and I've never lived more west than Dallas, Texas

there was a fangraphs chat maybe a month ago and basically everyone said that all of the gms are accepting that its between the yankees and the dodgers and its going to be the single most absurd contract ever given

harper is a lock to end up either a dodger or a yankee and thats going to make him a mega star even if mike trout is the better player
Griffey was a mega star without having to be in a huge market.
I don't know if we'll see anyone like Griffey for a while. Every sports fan that's now between the ages of about 25 and 40 wanted to be #24 on their sports teams and could imitate Griffey's swing on command.

All this marketing promotion ideas being thrown around and not one mention of who's going to go down as the goat SMDH
Great kid, fun to be around. The poster child of a how a franchise was turned around
He stormed the league in his rookie season, then committed a huge error on a huge stage at a young age that potentially cost his team a shot at the ultimate prize.
Now he's back, more determined and eager to bounce back in the years to come and lead his club and city to championship greatness

Where did you find this? I wanted to send to a friend in Seattle but don't want to just link a TD thread

Maybe Harper if he weren't such a pompous prick
He is really easy to not like

If he had stayed healthy, he would have been the GOAT

im thinking bryce harper
Harper isn't as likable a player as Griffey. Even if you weren't a huge fan of Griffey, he was about as likable a player as it gets. Combine that with how great a player he was, he was pretty easy to market. Players like that just don't come around that often. Baseball also took a huge shot in the nuts with the steroid controversy
