That's just because you buy Clay Travis's citation to "the lowest I've seen."

From April 12, 2020, 11 PM SC was 74th among cable programs. That was well before Floyd.

4-12 ratings

Same day of the week this week, it was 78th.

6-7 ratings

So this catastrophic dropoff Travis is talking about is a whole 3 spots. That's what Travis is being dishonest about. ESPN got a bump from the last dance, but outside that, SC ratings have been in the mid-70's with very little change.

They should abandon their morning stuff and just go back to showing highlights-centric sportscenter reruns all morning

By the time you get to outside the lines (do they even show that anymore?) every topic has been rehashed 7 times.

That show would probably struggle with ratings if all the cars in the world stopped working over night

Nah, the timeslot would probably feature re-runs of previous JLG shows. Kind of like what ESPN was doing initially during the pandemic by airing re-runs of prior sporting events. ESPN abandoned that for political motives.

And JLG would still beat out ESPN based on its performance recently

I feel like there's a niche out there for a channel that's only about sports. 24-7 sports, games, winners, losers, scores, highlights, pregame and postgame breakdown, maybe a few postgame interviews. Revolutionary idea I know. Instead of sports channels as a platform to push a political agenda.

They should just turn regular ESPN into ESPN classic until games are back. Just run old games 22 of 24 hours.

You have maybe enough news about MLB bargaining, upcoming NFL and CFB and NBA reopening to squeeze two hours out of. I fully agree trying to do semi-regular programming winds up beating the few discussable issues they have to death.

Why do people keep saying this when there is no point to a highlights show now that anyone can pull up the highlights they want on their phone? Nobody is going to wait half an hour to hopefully see 15 seconds of their team on Sportscenter anymore. The internet has made all sports highlight shows irrelevant. Every single league and every single team puts together their own highlight reels for their websites that go far more in depth than anything Sportscenter was ever able to do.

I don't like going to find highlights. I like when they are brought to me. Like it used to be. I realized I'm in a very small minority

I used to watch SportsCenter every night in college and this is exactly what killed watching it for me.

I watched for highlights, and they're now available whenever I want them without tuning in to SportsCenter. There's just no reason to watch any more for me.

Even stuff like "insider" segments, you can get real time info on rumors without having to wait for SC.

I buy the OBJECTIVE FACT that ESPN received the LOWEST RATINGS IN THE HISTORY OF THE NETWORK and got upstaged by Jay Leno’s. Garage.

He’s not being dishonest about anything, ESPN’s a flagship network for American sports and it suffered its worst ratings in its history thats 40+ years that applies to all its programming, none of your points nullify the larger point: sports needs to resume FAST or ESPN will fade away because they continue to rely on political bullshite.

Exactly.

I can get breaking news off of Twitter or even a place like Tigerdroppings well before ESPN has a chance to package it for a Sportscenter segment.

You don't even have to watch drafts anymore b/c all the picks leak before they are announced on air.

That’s a good point but you still might get different views and angles of the game from the postgame interview highlights, commentary and whatnot.

Get a streaming device, hook it up to your TV, get a YouTube app and link your account, subscribe to all the sports league YouTube pages, set your preferences to always play next video and boom, highlight packages on your TV every night.

Exactly what kind of extra commentary aside from cheesy jokes has Sportscenter ever given us? Everything you want can be found elsewhere and goes more in depth. Unless your team was playing in the biggest game of the day you would be lucky getting more than 3 or 4 plays and the score.

What do you expect on the more soy board?

I mean this board actively campaigns for the cancellation of the national anthem.

All the usual SJW posters didn’t even read the article. Just saw the word “Woke”, got emotionally-hijacked, and started seeing red.

The whole point is that that there has been a steep decline in their viewership over the last 2 weeks for obvious reasons. As it says, we’ve been without sports for 3 months almost now.

Exactly.

Led by westcoastfag and his merry band of SJW sky screamers, they must defend Woke Take and Get Woke

I don't feel like I have to buy that as fact given that Travis doesn't source that claim at all. Here's his "sourcing."

First Take had just 211,000 viewers, the lowest number of viewers I’ve ever seen for the show.

Well, it's hard to argue with irrefutable proof like that.

I gave you cites from the same day/time SC in April to today where the big difference is 3 spots from 74 to 78. You can use all the all caps and Wokecenter you want, but SC numbers haven't changed much around George Floyd.

They did drop 62% after Covid hit. Travis doesn't mention that because he has an agenda.

I'm not even defending Sportscenter. As my other posts have hinted at, I think it's an obsolete program dying a slow death in the internet highlights age. But at least be honest about why.

I wish gyms would stop leaving TVs on ESPN, that would really hit them hard

I'm a millennial and I think I speak for most of us when I say I'd rather watch a single program then look up highlights for each game. Quit being obtuse
