re: Windhorst: Dan Gilbert believes he can build a championship team without Lebron James

Interesting article from Windhorst. Mainly because I doubt Gilbert is talking to Windhorst so this is either completely made up or Bron is in phase 1 of making Gilbert look like an a-hole before he leaves.

Porter is the guy I wanted them to take that year, but they took a shot on Bennett's upside. He just never came close to his potential.

Dan Gilbert had 4 years to build a playoff roster and failed.

Yeah but it's not like he had any luck in the draft lottery
Oh wait
Oh wait

Yeah Oladipo is another. Noel was the consensus most talented guy from what I remember but fell because of injuries, he hasn’t worked out but who knows if he was in a different situation what may have happened

The more and more I read LeBron is going to the Clippers with Paul George

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert posted this letter on the team's website after LeBron James' announcement he was leaving for the Miami Heat.
Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;
As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.
This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.
Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.
The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.
There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.
You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.
You have given so much and deserve so much more.
In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:
"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER 'KING' WINS ONE"
You can take it to the bank.
If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.
Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.
Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.
This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.
But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.
The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.
Just watch.
Sleep well, Cleveland.
Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....
I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:
DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....
Dan Gilbert
Majority Owner
Cleveland Cavaliers
lolololol

give Cleveland 3/4 of the next no.1 overall picks again they will be doomed.

Top 5 Cavs picks since LeBron:
2011 - Kyrie (1/1), Tristan (1/4)
2012 - Dion Waiters (1/4)
2013 - Anthony Bennett (1/1)
2014 - Andrew Wiggins (1/1)
And now they dont have shite to show for any of this. They would have to tank for multiple years and have a ton of luck to get this many high picks again

I think LeBron being from Cleveland has made Gilbert forget how shitty Cleveland is at attracting free agents
Can't really be that much worse than Detroit can it?

Just imagine
PG - Kyrie Irving
SG - Damien Lillard
SF - Klay Thompson
PF - LeBron James
C - Giannis Antetokounmpo
That could have been the team Lebron came back to. That team wins four straight and Lebron is sitting on six championships right now.

How delusional does Gilbert have to be to not realize that the biggest thing holding back his franchise is him?
Is he surrounded by robotic yes men or bobblehead androids or something?

They won't. They did that hoping to get LeBron back there. It worked.
If they had a shite team without Kyrie then no way he would have gone back.
If he leaves again the league knows he's likely never going back "home."

Basically it is another way Lebron can leave and try to get no backlash or people calling him out.

?
They have the franchise's only NBA championship to show for it. Kyrie and Tristan were major contributors on the 2016 team. Waiters was part of the deal that brought Shumpert and JR to Cleveland who were important role players on that team. Wiggins and Bennett (lol people still thought he might turn it around at this point) were flipped for Kevin Love. Most importantly, all of those high picks made it an attractive destination for Lebron.

As a Clippers fan I would love it if this happened.
Sadly if Lebron goes to LA it will most likely be for the Lakers.

He's trying to mollify season ticket holders.

They barely built 1 championship team WITH LeBron James.

Never discount the GOAT FO known as Jerry west.
Dude builds contenders in his sleep. I know Lakers are the fancy decision but clippers have a low key talented team with some flexibility now.

I was about to say this. It's the exact thing Krause said when he dismantled the Bulls.
