EUGENE — Former Oregon Ducks football player Doug Brenner is suing the University of Oregon, former football coach Willie Taggart, former strength coach Irele Oderinde and the NCAA for negligence stemming from his January 2017 hospitalization following strenuous offseason workouts that resulted in rhabdomyolysis and subsequent injuries.

Brenner is seeking $11.5 million in damages.

In an 18-page suit filed in Multnomah County circuit court on Wednesday, Brenner’s attorneys allege the University of Oregon was negligent for failing to prohibit, regulate or supervise the workouts, which they describe as “physical punishment regimens.” The lawsuit also alleges that Taggart and Oderinde, both now at Florida State, were negligent in imposing and carrying out the workouts, and that the NCAA has failed to regulate such practices by coaches of its member institutions.

I have some high school coaches I didn’t like. Wonder what kind of money the LHSAA is working with.

So if Taggart's negligence legit robbed the guy of NFL millions, he's just supposed to take it like a man?

He’s crying over a little blood, sweat, tears, and muscle soreness?

Is rhabdo typically something that causes a person to miss the NFL? Everything I know about it has always seemed like it cures itself in a few weeks

Is he the only Duck named in the suit? It would seem if the s&t program was as irresponsible as he claims, he would have other players involved or at least publicly supporting him. Does he? I'll admit to possibly being wrong, and an a-hole, if other players start suing as well. Bu 1 out of 100s seems... suspect.

But, as of now

Neither Poutasi nor McCormick, who are still members of Oregon’s football team, are parties in the lawsuit.

And they suffered the same condition he did.

Lawsuit figures are just like high school weights of players and potential jail time in federal cases. Inflated to the point of absurdity in every instance.

Safeguards were in place, multiple sources told The Oregonian/OregonLive at the time, with water available and players allowed to ask out if needed. However, Brenner’s lawsuit contends players were not permitted to drink water during the first day of the workouts.

To be fair, Taggert had grossly negligent games too, at least this season.
