And this season they don’t play a single team in the top 40.

That'll change when they play in the AAC Championship game.

They can't help their schedule. All they can do is beat who they play.

I understand that. But when you don’t play a single good team, you can’t bitch and moan about not making it into the playoff.

What’s the point of UCF even suiting up if they are disqualified from the CFP before the season starts?

You're not wrong, but if they are going to just give themselves a National championship regardless, why does it matter to them, or anyone else for that matter?

I hate this argument. People use it for Notre Dame after they get their asses destroyed in the previous year's bowl game. UCF is ND with a slightly easier schedule. Good team, not a great team.

Except they didn’t. A nationally recognized service did and the NCAA recognized it.

I love how the narrative always shifts when UCF or Boise does something. You guys always want them to do something they have no control of.

Go on the road and play whatever ranked team will play you without a return visit. If UCF is as good as advertised they should be able to get that done easily.

Yes, just take the much more difficult road in which you have 0 guarantee of it even working out UCF. Because it's guaranteed that the team you scheduled for 3 years down the road will be good of course

so. When your a mid major, you need to win games like that for people to take your program serious.
People took Boise St more serious b/c they were beating good teams. Beat Oregon twice, Oregon St, TCU, Utah Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, UGA, and all of them were ranked when they beat them from 2008 to 2011. The year they beat UGA, in 2011, they had a legit shot at getting to the title game had they not lost to a ranked TCU team later in the season for their lone loss on the season. I'm sure the idiots would have still pitted LSU against Bama again, but you would have had a decent case for Boise that year if they went undefeated and no one else was, considering what they had done the previous years in the non conference. The year they went undefeated in 2009 there were 4 other undefeated teams that year, so they had no chance.

Scheduling Maryland will more than likely end up being a non-quality win. It's not that hard to guarantee the team you schedule will likely be a good team when you play them.

They could have tried to go to 5 or 6 other Big10 schools that would have provided a much more assured quality win for them, OSU/PSU/Wisconsin/Mich/MSU/Iowa. Any other school would be dumb to schedule if you're trying to get a quality win.

True.

Hard disagree. You have 0 guarantee whatsoever. We have all seen teams in CFB go from being title contenders to being cellar dwellers in just a few seasons. More average cases are just usual regression where teams can go from being top tier to being middle tier at best, and that is not enough according to the opponents to teams like UCF.

Granted, I'm of the view that the G5 should break off entirely and have their own playoff, as it is nigh impossible for a G5 team to make it to the CFP. Can it happen? Sure. I could also win the lottery tomorrow.

So if UCF tries to schedule these teams and they don’t want to play them, what is their options?

Have you noticed the majority of top teams stay way way far away from the UCF types? Unless it’s a neutral or no return game?

This is also a critical point as the significant P5 team has no real reason to play a team like UCF.

The P5 team wins? It was expected, nothing new.

The P5 team loses? Major upset, CFP chances shot to pieces most likely.

Then they can take it up with their AD, president, and AAC commish. Can't have it both ways.

Stanford isn't good anymore. UCF took advantage of that. The Cardinal will struggle to finish .500 this year.

Heck, Memphis had to sign a 2 for 1 with frickin' Arkansas just to get them to play.

And the AAC isn’t the ACC. Even with as bad a weekend as the ACC just had.
