Will Clark makes quite the case for why Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame

Will Clark says that in his best year he had 196 hits.
He then says if you had my best year for 21 years in a row you would still be short of Pete's hit record.
Will Clark was pretty damn good.
It's crazy knowing that you could be Will Clark at his best for 21 years straight and still fall short of Pete's hit record.

I mean Pete should be in the Hall of Fame, so should Barry Bonds for that matter, but Clark saying that doesn't really make "the case" considering him not being in the Hall has nothing to do with his stats.

It’s not crazy at all. Also thanks Will, I had no idea the all time hits leader had a HOF-worthy resume

Pete Rose's transgressions didn't result in more hits.
Barry Bond's transgressions absolutely resulted in more HR's.
Pre Roided Out Barry doesn't even look like the same human as Post Roided Out Barry

And pre-roided Bonds is still a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
Thanks for making my point.

Pete should be in the HoF. There is no evidence, nor did he admit to, gambling on baseball until he was a player-manager for the Reds. This was well after he had an elite HoF worthy career as a player.
Bonds was a hall of famer before he took roids too, but that's a different situation.

No he wasn't.
He may have ended up in the HOF without Roids, but to say he would have been a 1st Ballot HOF inductee is a reach.
He was a liability in the field and it would be generous to say he had a rag arm.
And a Roidless Barry's stats would have faded with age instead of improved.
Maybe Brady Anderson deserves the HOF for his Roided Out 50 HR year.
Thanks for making my point

Well, yeah, what's new. He's been in love with himself for at least the last 45 years and I say that as someone who grew up with him in NO East. Love could be an understatement with Will.
But he isn't wrong

He had 3 MVPs before doing steroids
ETA:
Pre-1998, which is when he started using the juice, these were Bonds' stats:
91.8 WAR, .288 average, .408 OBP, 1,750 hits, 374 HRs
Awards:
- Rookie of the Year
- 3x MVP (and a runner up, and 3 other top 5s in voting)
- 6x Gold Glove
- 6x Silver Slugger
He's a hall of famer pre-roids. If you're the best player in baseball for that long, you're in the Hall assuming no other issues. The 4 season stretch from 1990-93 was some of the best baseball anyone has ever played.

Can't really take the HOF seriously when David Ortiz is in but guys like Bonds, Clemens, and A-Rod are out.

No one has ever argued Pete should not be in the hall based on the merits of his play.

yeah I still took 98 off because that's the year when he started (although it was allegedly after that season).
It doesn't matter. 86-97 is a Hall of Fame career. He led the league in WAR in 1990,1991,1992,1993,1995,1996, and 1998

What would they have done if he got busted in 1992 and was already in the Hall?

Yeah, I love Ortiz (I'm a Sox fan), but his entire career WAR is 55 and he has 7 Silver Sluggers and he was a largely a DH. Bonds pre-roids had a better career.

Agreed with him (and Rose) being in the Hall...honestly I think all the 'alleged' steroid guys during the steroid era (and even the ones that were caught) should be in because they were also probably hitting against pitchers who were on stuff.
