It looks like after stealing a team from New Orleans and building their new stadium they are being bumped back down to AA in the Texas League as the Marlins have decided to move Jacksonville up to triple A next season instead and go with Pensacola at AA. Hah!

Would that additionally leave a vacancy in the Southern League then? Has there been any word at all on a new team or ownership group in New Orleans? I know there was a rumor floating around when the "Baby Cakes" (shudder) left that the Jackson TN team might move here but it seems to have died a death.

New Orleans can’t keep restaurants open or clean up collapsed job sites right now. I doubt they’ll be attracting any professional sports teams for the foreseeable future.

I have no idea why Jackson TN has had a AA club for twenty years now.

I think MLB is pushing the buttons and dictating things here. Not sure where the Wind Surge fit in the TX League. That would make 9 teams.

I remember going to a couple of games as a kid, was always packed. I assume because there’s jack dick to do in Jackson and it bears driving to Memphis it Murfreesboro.

That's unfortunate. We built an incredible stadium as a city to support the Wind Surge (terrible name) and COVID stopped it before it could ever get going. Wichita is a sports hungry town. It would have been a fun summer with the Wind Surge in town last year.

There was about to be a massive shakeup of the minors. Then rona hit which probably accelerates it. There’s Gonna be contraction in the minors.

I’m thinking that has to settle out first.

If the team had gotten to play this year I think they would still be a AAA. The stadium is sick and the city’s hyped to have affiliated ball back. Instead the guy that brought them here and was so excited about it died from COVID and this happens. Sucks.

while that’s true it takes a bit of a pride blow going from competing against cities like Memphis and Vegas to cities like Lubbock

I feel like Wichita will still get an opportunity in Triple A. I could see Sacramento or Fresno dropping out altogether and ending with one of those new Rookie teams. Fresno was already mentioned on the list by MLB as a city that may get contracted.

The main issue is MLB wanting to keep triple A squads closer to parent clubs. That puts Wichita in a tight spot. Kansas City has Omaha, St Louis has Memphis. Rangers will probably find their way back to Round Rock once Sugarland goes to Houston.

Colorado is close enough for consideration but they have Albuquerque.

The baseball stadium has been converted to rugby
Place is a dump
They refused to upgrade it
It’s too hot in summer to support milb in New Orleans

Watch out, other locals will trash you for this comment. It’s true though. The suburban ballpark doesn’t work too well in the minors. Downtown parks are all the rage. If NO has any chance in the future with MiLB, it needs a downtown park.

I don’t buy this. El Paso, Albuquerque, and Vegas have teams. Corpus Christi, Round Rock, Midland, and Sugarland have teams. All of them are thriving.

The whole minor league system is changing. MiLB is no longer a thing. MLB is making their own minor league system. 40+ teams are going to vanish, and a lot of other teams will be moved.

Wichita and Fresno are losing their AAA affiliations. Wichita will be in AA and Fresno in A. St Paul and Sugar Land will be moved from independent leagues to take the two AAA spots........and Miami is moving their AAA team to Jacksonville because the main focus for the new minor league system is close proximity to other teams. The two AAA leagues are going to be split into three. A Pacific, International, and a third(American Association).

honestly i might've been the only person in wichita that was slightly relieved with wind surge because i knew the capacity of schwecheimer to pull something next level stupid. I dont like it but it couldve been way worse.

I wish we had went with wind sox honestly. That wouldve been cool
