Why was Scott Frost such garbage?

As a young man who has dreams and aspirations how do you fail that bad at a university who doesn't even have extremely high expectations?

Nebraska fans are Alabama fans without the success

Yeah, Nebraska fans live in the 90's and think they should be crazy awesome.
Expectations haven't dropped just because they've been mediocre. I mean they fired Frank Solich because he wasn't winning a Natty every year. They have the Alabama mindset.
There's still no low expectations from the fanbase.
Go on their message boards, they still can't deal or understand the decline.

NCAA cracked down on the vitamin usage he was accustomed to in Lincoln

This was twenty years ago.
They just gave Scott Frost a 5th year without making a bowl game. Mike Riley got 3 years with a .500 record. Pelini got 7 or 8 years without ever making a major bowl game.
Wisconsin just fired Chryst with the same or better resume than Pelini.
The narrative that Nebraska expects coaches to win big is dated at this point.

This is such a tired take, they fired Solich almost 20 years ago (and not all of us wanted him fired after the 03 season). We just want to be competitive and not a complete embarrassment.
The biggest delusion in the fanbase is the failure to recognize that Frost was not a good head coach after the 2019 season.

They have a rabid fanbase that will pour a shite ton of money into the program including NIL deals. Just this past season they pulled one of the best transfer classes with a dead man walking at head coach.
I don’t see Nebraska being a national championship contender, but in the NIL era, I think they become a middling to upper B1G program like Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan State.

Partial qualifiers
County scholarships
advanced "strength and conditioning"

He got a 5th year because he was a native son and still his seat was 10 alarm chili hot
There is a famous Skip Bertman quote where he tells a struggling player “it’s not your fault, I never should have recruited you”
Nebraska never should have hired Frost. Nothing in his coaching background indicated he could achieve at high levels in the B1G.

The dude was 4 points a game away from GOAT status

Supposedly he was very disorganized, which is a death sentence unless you're recruiting at insane levels (and even then, you'll run into a Bama or UGA who have talent + organization). You basically need to have a GOAT-level team fall into your lap (like Orgeron in 2019).

No kids want to go to freezing/boring arse Nebraska to play ball
Maybe back in the day when they were preseason 1 or 2 but not now

Nebraska is still easily a top 25 program in recruiting. That doesn't imply a lack of desire to play there, and you play most of your games before the ice cold weather really bogs things down.

Lincoln is literally no different than Ann Arbor or Columbus. Columbus is bigger but it’s far from “cool”.
There’s no excuse for Nebraska to not be 1b in the BIG with Michigan.

Apparently, they stopped cheating with juice they gave lineman and quit paying for inner city kids to naturally find a future at Nebraska somehow attractive.
