I know this will sound delusional and I don’t necessarily mean it literally but he seems to play like Montana. Maybe it’s the 49ers jersey and the Shanahan modernized west coast system that makes it reminiscent.
By Montana I mean he doesn’t really have noticeable arm talent or athleticism but plays very calm/collected and gets the ball to the insanely talented playmakers he has around him very effectively.

Reminds me when LSU shut down Lamar in a bowl game, now he sits out playoff games.

If it weren't for Jesse Sapolu, Purdy wouldn't have been drafted at all.

Look at how good and accurate Burrow is but he can't avoid shite. Sack stat monster. Easier to invest in an elusive QB, than a Berlin wall O-line. That's why Caleb Williams will be so coveted. His O-line sucked at USC this year but he danced his way to completions.
What an absolute take this is

Weaknesses:
Arm-strength limitations
Not a running threat
Will struggle to avoid pass rushers
Arm strength probably needs to hit hard in the offseason but he doesn't throw noodles and miss windows due to lack of velocity. And his deep ball is catchable af, way more than Jimmy

Kyle Shanahan can win with basically any average joe NFL QB.

Sometimes the talent evaluators miss

Wasn't he kind of streaky
To put it mildly. And you could say that about Iowa State under Matt Campbell in general.
Suck in September, but roll through October. November is a toss up.
Throw 2 picks in a conference championship and be down 17, but somehow rally back with a chance to win (until he throws another pick on the final drive).
Throw for 150 yds in a Fiesta Bowl, but somehow win comfortably.
Be preseason #23, lose to ULL, finish #9. Be preseason #7, beat CFP contender Oklahoma State, finish unranked. Purdy and the Cyclones were enigmas.

Sums up Matt Campbell's career.

What's funny is the last two listed weaknesses are flat arse wrong.
While not a runner or built for designed runs, but he's regularly bolting the pocket for 1st downs. And his ability to avoid pass rushers is second to none due to his incredible shiftiness. (His time in the 10 yard split is exactly .01 seconds less than Lamar Jackson.)
He got devalued based on height and perceived lack of arm strength.

Why was JaMarcus Russell drafted 1st overall?
He was the best QB in CFB in 2006 and had possibly the greatest physical tools in NFL history.
That was a no brainer.

Jimmy G already led a team to a c-hair away from winning, and likely only didn't win because of a super conservative game plan in the 2nd half (which Jimmy G didn't create)

A little of the GM's overvaluing the measureables, on top of he landed in the perfect spot with Shanahan and that offense. Lots of weapons around him with a creative play caller.

His team is stacked offensively. Is he that good or are they just loaded and have a scheme where he isn't asked to do much?

He's averaging 29 attempts a game. Some of them lean towards hitting Deebo on a screen (i.e. low percentage of disaster), but some of them also go to Kittle stretching the field. Kittle has completely surged because Purdy is good over the middle on intermediate routes
It's also coaching. When Jimmy went down in 2018, CJ Beathard and Nick Mullens put up big numbers on a less talented team (no Deebo, only Kittle, average OL). Some of the passing stats are a function of being down a lot but I doubt anyone gets that production out of them other than Shanahan

he was a 4 star recruit out of high school
Lots of 4 star QBs play in relative obscurity in college
Looks like he just didn’t fit the “mold”. I feel like the NFL is pretty formulaic with QB evals because they have to be (hard to translate CFB success to the league). If you’re going to be a 6’1 QB with average atheism you have to absolutely tear it up.
Also, he’s only played a couple games. Really good games mind you, but small sample size nonetheless. Fitzmagic would have had us thinking he’s the GOAT if you looked at a good stretch of his games. Let’s see how he looks after a year as a starter (assuming he starts somewhere next year).

he never really improved like you would think a 4-year starter would but was aggressively solid. In his sophomore year throw for 27 TD, his high, and never went over 20 besides that year. That just isn't great especially in the big 12
I was surprised to see him be the last overall.
