Why is spiking the football illegal in CFB?

Seems like it shouldn’t be a big deal.
Granted it’s a different league, but the NFL has never had a problem with this. Anyone have any history on this rule?

Yeah having fun while playing CFB was just frowned upon and then it became outlawed.
And Miami had a lot to do with that.
They would fricking dance after every first down catch.
The WORST unsportsmanlike conduct penalty ever:
Washington vs. BYU
This is when you knew CFB had jumped the shark.
CFB is supposed to be fun. I don't know why the powers that be took the fun out of it.
They're kids. Yeah, Miami was over the top but it was still fun. You just hated them more.

They don’t want them to get paid like professionals, but they want them to act like professionals. Interesting

Because the players are basically large children and if the other team celebrates too much they get their feelings hurt.

In the 1980s, teams started to recruit more and more players that had no business being in college. People started to see more embarrassing conduct by players on and the off the field, and this came to a head in the ‘91 Cotton Bowl when Miami set a record for unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.
To combat this, instead of telling the schools not to recruit illiterates and criminals, the NCAA just made excessive celebration a personal foul. They banned just about every individual celebration they could think of. I guess they figured as long as the fans didn’t see players acting selfishly they wouldn’t care.
I don’t really know why they keep the rule because I don’t think most people care about how presentable the athletes are any more. Maybe it’s a fear that fights will break out because players have more passion for their college teams and are more immature than professionals.

I remember those good ole days when we had college football and other sports. Anyone else remember those days? It just so happens that LSU was the last national champion. We still like to talk about the legend of Joe Burrow in my family. Maybe one day college football will return.

Was there a fight between Miamu and UF on Bourbon Street one year? I vaguely think I remember an eye witness say it was like a hurricane lol

I still get pissed off about those BS unsportsmanlike conduct penalties near the end of the LSU Georgia game in 2009.

Because grumpy old people act like they’d stop watching if kids were allowed to celebrate

Because we must protect the sensibilities of the older white demographic, particularly the boosters.

Contrary to your beliefs, not everything is about race.

and the penalty against LSU when the Tigers scored on the ensuing drive was equally bad.

It's even a live ball foul if done before entering the endzone.
Case in point. 2013 Mississippi State at Texas A&M. RB Trey Williams returns a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. At the 3 yard line with a defender within 5 yards of him, he leaps and somersaults into the endzone. fig Penn Wagers throws a flag for excessive celebration, the touchdown is removed and A&M gets the ball first and 10 on the Mississippi State 18.

One of the greatest punters’ iconic plays was a long touchdown run that didn’t even count

Was it Verne or Gary who said when that happened, "it's not like you can tell him to act like he's been there before...he's a PUNTER"?

We all know the NCAA takes just, reason, and logic very serious
