Where does any slang/internet meme come from? No one knows for sure. It just eventually makes its way into the current lexicon of society

It’s honestly awfully racist to act like blacks are just helpless to fix their black on black crime issue.

Is he actually a functioning adult? He does not seem like a very smart person at all, and I say that charitably.

Yah this was a long time ago - after Katrina but when the Pelicans were still the Hornets. He was a good dude. Drove a big full sized pickem up truck. Seemed like a good baw.

See I don't think they'll fold. I think it's going to be a subtle shrink every season. The demographics will shift and they'll lose older people..

Say that happens the next 3 years. That's what I mean by dying a quick, slow death. In 3 years, do you think qb's will be signing for 450 mil ? I don't think so. If Direct tv doesn't have the expected renewals for the football package, that will be a huge blow for the NFL.

Allowing stadium capacity of only 30-50 percent will also be a major blow. When this begins in earnest, you can bet players won't be such SJW's then.

And please, please don't ever let soccer be "the" American sport. I would rather count grass than watch soccer.

That's a non-sequitur. You don't listen to Donald Trump for escapism.

You answered your own question in your OP

They do it because the vast majority of people will ignore it or maybe boycott for like 2 games, so it doesn't really affect their bottom line and they get to score some sweet virtue points in the process.

That's it.

More power to ESPN standing up To racism. Too bad the racists can’t take it.

Let’s be honest - the people running American business these days will absolutely wade into waters that hurt or even threaten the bottom line. The Red Bull guy from Austria just canned some execs for being overly political. Look at Yeti or Dicks.

I’d imagine Lester likely married a hardcore leftist (male or female) and has been completely revamped into what he is now. By virtue of my age I’m friends with a lot of Democrats in real life and social media and most are not quite as retarded as Lester.

I've got to think it hurts bottom lines ... yet they still do it anyway. It's incredible.

Posters here claim "sjws"( like LeBron) in sports are afraid to speak out if it threatens their bottom line. Can we stop with the nonsense now ? It seems those sjws aren't that concerned considering the vast majority of their money is made in North America.

They don't seem too concerned with pissing off whiny conservatives.

It’s just such a bizarre pivot. Politics isn’t about escapism. It’s actually the opposite of escapism, it’s an active involvement with the issues that we face as a society.

Sports is about escapism for a large majority of viewers.

I guess I’m going to need to be walked through why his response makes any sense with respect to my original comment.

Sports may be about "escapism" for some viewers but that doesn't mean athletes can't have political and social opinions about things that matter to them because the average white viewer at home doesn't want to hear it. The top black athletes in the NBA, NFL, and others have demanded that their teams and leagues speak up on these issues. And I dont have a problem with them doing so. It is pretty weird that athletes are the only people in society expected to not have political opinions (unless you are a black conservative like Charles Barkley).

Of course they can have opinions on contentious issues. But I think when you intertwine the politics and opinions into the product people are consuming, it damages the product to some consumers and overall market demand can be expected to change. I think this net change is likely to be negative, but I wouldn’t hasten a guess on how much it really matters.

But it’s analogous to if I were to go into a political discussion in front of our clients at work at a company presentation, I could reasonably expect the brand of my company to look a little different to those clients.
