Michigan
Texas
Notre Dame
Florida State
Tennessee
Miami
Nebraska
USC

Are all shells of what they once were. Why is this? All of those schools have plenty of money/great athletic facilities/tradition, and are in areas of the country rich with talent.

Haven’t won a national championship since ‘88.

Got lucky in 2012 with a weak arse schedule and then got embarrassed in the title game

Population shift, commitment by the university to support football, eligibility rule changes, much lot numerous tv deals and opportunities,

But I have no clue why Texas has sucked and only played for 2 titles since forever.

I feel like Tennessee definitely was at one point.

They are arguably one of the most recognizable brands in the sport

You thought the SEC getting stronger wasn’t gonna affect anyone else?

Part of it is the growth of television, particularly for schools like Nebraska. If say South Carolina gets the same exposure as Nebraska, and you live close to SC, then you are probably staying at SC.

Part of it is also the growth of the SEC as a conference. Alabama dynasty, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Florida have all had runs to dominance in the last 2 decades.

And part of it is location. Would you rather live in Ann Arbor or Gainesville. Lincoln or Oxford. South Bend or College Station.

Those are the main three why some blue bloods have fallen off.

It’s all cyclical, and Notre Dame isn’t shite. They only suck against top 2/3 schools.

The answer is varying reasons. Bad coaching, university politics, location, etc.

Why should Nebraska have ever been good? It’s in the heartland, which isn’t a place known for great skill athletes. Florida State screwed themselves.

Also, only so many schools can be badass at once. It wasn’t long ago that Michigan was a champ and Ohio State was struggling against South Carolina in Tampa.

Bad hires for most. ND has high academic standards. Nebraska had to recruit nationally which was hard to maintain.

Miami, FSU, and USC don't have great money/facilities. Tennessee and Notre Dame aren't around title contender level talent. Nebraska isn't around winning season level talent.

You really cant say this about Georgia since they never even won a championship.

LSU-3
Florida-2
Auburn-1
Georgia-0

In the last two decades, as you mentioned.

There are basically five or six super teams right now and it's difficult to break into the club.
OSU.
Clem.
Two or three SEC teams.
Maybe OK.

Michigan, Texas, and Notre Dame aren't shite they're just not elite.

FSU and Miami has had to deal with rising competition in state especially Florida coming to power in the 90's and again in the late 00's.

Tennessee and Nebraska don't have the same in state talent that places like Georgia, Florida, and Louisiana do. Also really bad hires.

As for USC it's just plain old shite hires and nobody knows how to recruit. You seriously can't convince an 18 year old living in the ghetto or trailer park to live like a king in LA? Damn USC
