I think Tech has a "Facilities Fee" that has been basically used for their rec center and athletic facilities since it was created I could be wrong about that however.

It was the prestige of trying to be like LA Tech that did it.
You grew up in Monroe, NLU had a good little thing going in 1-AA with Collins and even Roberts. People went to games (probably more then than in the last 20 years). I don’t know when Tech went 1-A, I’m sure it impacted NLU’s decision to keep up with its main geographic rival at the time..... The question was asked why ULM doesn’t go back to FCS, and I answered money. It’s a shame, because that’s truly where they belong from a competitive standpoint, and I believe the football program would be much more successful. They’re stuck where they are for financial reasons. To your earlier point ULM will remain a commuter school.

no school has gone from FBS (D1) to FCS (D1-AA)
too big of an economic hit for the AD

I talked to a friend who’s brother is in staff and he said they don’t get the stipend? Unless he’s wrong but that was last month lol

We were close to sneaking one by a couple times then the student paper caught wind and that did away with that.
Isn’t Louisiana the only state or one of only two states in the country where a student body vote is required to pass an athletic fee?

Something like that.
I’ll be honest I think students should have the right to vote on fees like that. (Things like recreation and athletics that don’t effect everyone)
The main problem is the general attitude the students there have towards athletics. I can promise you a fee like that at LSU is almost assuredly getting passed.

This is how ULL is too but to a much lesser extent. LSU’s campus on any of the 7 Saturdays of the year is full of students at other LA schools mostly SELU & ULL.
This is a huge problem. Louisiana is full of group think front runners. When I was a Tech, people didn't wear LSU shite on campus without being harassed.

This. I think in '87 they won a NC under Collins. Times were good. I was still in high school then and I remember that NLU wasn't just an afterthought for kids in high school in Monroe. You basically went there unless you had some family/geographic connection to LSU or an Alabama, Ole Miss, etc. Shite, LSU was still the flagship but generally was not great in football so it wasn't quite the draw that it is today in that regard. Only a handful went to Tech and that was mostly kids wanting to get into Engineering or Aviation. Plus, NLU pulled a crazy number of non-71201 kids coming from the rest of Mecca and even had a good portion of students coming from South LA as well. That has all kind of changed now other than the fact that ULM still pulls kids from more rural parts of North LA but the Monroe kids and money has evaporated.

100% correct. They will never drop down. They need those million dollar checks to pay for everything else. I am sure those 2 big missed paydays from Arkansas/Georgia really hurt them this year.

Seriously they’d be much better off in the FCS. When have they ever had a successful athletic team in the FBS level? They seem to struggle with their budget and moving down to D1 FCS would be good for them.
Because even with their budget troubles they make more money in the SBC than they would in the FCS. When Idaho dropped down to FCS after being kicked out of the SBC they lost between $600,000 to $1,000,000 per year in media rights and bowl revenue disbursements.

Well that’s another conversation but the way things are structured with the pharmacy school, this will not happen. That sealed their fate basically.
Sell the pharmacy and nursing schools to VCOM or form a public private partnership with VCOM for a health sciences campus made up of the VCOM DO school, a nursing school, and pharmacy school. I know it will never happen because touching higher education is impossible due to the politics involved but that is what needs to happen.

Why would they privatize the best part of their school? The pharm school is the main draw

That’s how ULL is too. Which is stupid btw because you can like both LATECH/ULL and LSU. They absolutely do not conflict with one another. Different levels of athletics.

Yea I never had much issue with people doing it when I was in school. I never did (partially because I was an athlete) but like you said it’s two completely different levels. Now it pissed me the frick off if I saw a tech/ull shirt or if someone was cheering for LSU the few times we matched up with them in sports (granted we were guaranteed to get steamrolled)

To close the rest of it and/or make it a satellite campus of LaTech.

I think the issue though is many of those same students will complain that they’d root for Tech/UL/ULM “if they were competitive”, but then they never attend games and would vote against a $100 per semester fee to help their athletic programs get on a more even level playing field with their conference mates.

I go to baseball games at both Tech and ULM. I'm a Northwestern State grad.
Would they rather have me buying a ticket and a hot dog in a Northwestern shirt, or sitting at home and losing my money?

If you show up at the Tigue (maybe even Cajun Field) in lsu garb you will be presented with the proper UL gear, with the crowd encouraging you to put it on.
