. I think dr. Bruno started getting the boat in the right direction in terms of getting academics together but he neglected the alumni base and athletics too much. I think dr. Berry can get those groups back together while keeping the forward momentum on academics.

You talk about a school that should consolidate and merge with another. Here ya go. It’s either Nichols or McNeese. One of these needs to merge.
Start with UNO and SUNO which are literally a few feet away from one another. On a larger scale it would be wise for the state to either merge or have campuses specialize in certain majors. But, lets be real it's the state of LA...

That shite will never happen and you know it. Why waste the time writing that drivel?
ULM just needs to try putting the cart in front of the horse in athletics and actually spend a little up front to get a better return later. I think I learned something about ROI in Economics but I digress. However, I think hiring Tot may be the first step in this direction. You put a winning product on the field and I bet the money will follow.

To be fair to him the majority of the time he was president Bobby was slashing the living frick out of budgets every semester.
Higher education basically became the hunger games and Bruno chose to hunker down and cheap out a bit on athletics the president before him was worse for the school. Bruno came in at a shitty time and had to steady the boat.
We've had a fair bit of upgrades in the past couple years after all the slashing was done.

Additionally the school hasn't passed an athletic fee yet ( they should do it with all the people off campus). Because our dumbfricks on the worthless student newspaper started a smear campaign

Well yea but you know how frustrating that shite was for the guys in athletics there? It was time for Bruno to dip out.

Please pass a student fee!!!! The minute one is state program passes an athletic student fee the rest will follow. Especially if it’s ULM.
There is no way La Tech would sit back and not pass one if ULM had one. Same came be said for UL.

I can almost guarantee that HBCU’s will not close. Especially in today’s social climate no matter how much economic sense it makes.

We were close to sneaking one by a couple times then the student paper caught wind and that did away with that.
It’s unfortunate because it’s needed.
This is a tldr version of how it goes down every time.
ULM students: Lmao this schools athletics suck make it better.
ULM athletics: okay cool help us do that
ULM students: lol frick you

All the directional schools started out this way. NLU had pharmacy, OT, dental hygiene, and aviation. NSU had nursing and originally education, although the rest had education very quickly. La Tech had engineering, aviation. Those are the ones I know about being from that part of the state. I'm sure there were similar things with USL, McNeese, Southwestern, etc. The whole idea was that it would keep these schools going and the state would spend less money on all these programs. Now, just like with all things...everybody thinks they should have everything.

Also the instructors/professors all voted against it. Another thing by the way, ULM is probably the only FBS school that doesn’t give its student athletes or football players stipend $.

This is how ULL is too but to a much lesser extent. LSU’s campus on any of the 7 Saturdays of the year is full of students at other LA schools mostly SELU & ULL.

I talked to a friend who’s brother is in staff and he said they don’t get the stipend? Unless he’s wrong but that was last month lol

When have they ever had a successful athletic team in the FBS level?
This is something I’ve pondered quite a bit over the years. It was always explained to me that a group of influential boosters got in Swearingen’s ear and sold him on moving up to “1A” for prestige purposes. I think the real reason is taking those brutal pummelings funded the other sports (none of which are close to profitable). People are in here sneering about the football crowds but think about this, how many turn out for softball? Football is the piggy bank for every other sport at the school. There may have been a time back in Smoke’s day where baseball came close to break even but I have my doubts. Long story short, it’s about the money.

It was the prestige of trying to be like LA Tech that did it.

Of course it is. Football bankrolls all the other sports just like it does for 99.9% of every other school that has athletics.

You wanna start comparing facilities
Tech's facilities aren't much better than West Monroe High School's facilities.

They give rent stipends for off campus housing but no full COA
