In 2006 when the SEC started the ascent, the Bama alum that ran it never had any intention whatsoever of keeping a level playing field in the conference in order to establish dominance. Their work is just about complete, if not complete.

Mike Slive is a Dartmouth alumnus for undergrad, a UVA law grad, and has a Masters from Georgetown. He's from Utica, New York. I don't know how he could be anything further from an Alabama alum. He had 0 connections to Alabama or the southeast United States before he was hired as commissioner of the SEC in 2002.

Moron. When did Mike Slive attend Alabama?

I'm not referring to Mike Slive. The SEC Commissioner is ultimately a face of the conference. There are other facets of the SEC, you know.....

MORON

quote:

Saban knows what kind of socks his graduate assistants wear on gameday. It isn't some secret formula, he just works harder than everyone else and pays attention to the details better than anyone else. That can't be copied because it's part of who he is as a person.

Yet, when he was at LSU, he had one season where he didn't lose more than three games, and his teams, even the 2003 NC team, were consistently one of the most penalized in the league.

Saban left LSU, went to the NFL, where he failed miserably and left in less than a year.

Not saying he isn't a great college coach at all. Also not saying he doesn't work hard. I saw it first-hand at LSU. Difference is, now he now has a support system he wouldn't have anywhere else but a few select programs. Bama is one of those.

At this point, he really has no excuse whatsoever not to win the SEC every year.

As to the Auburn fan who pointed out that other teams can and have won the West....

Well, what good did that do? This point also brings validity to the OP.

But hey, keep denying that the duck quacking in your face isn't a duck. That's the part that amuses me the most.

That's the story of 2006.

You left out one important part that potentially changed the entire trajectory of the Alabama program. Rich Rodgriguez accepted the Alabama job, then changed his mind. I'd love to be able to go back in time to see how things would have played out had Rodriguez taken the job.

Nah, it started way, way before that.

Yes, I'm well aware of where the SEC Commissioners have graduated from. Thanks!

PS - LSU finally got a piece of the pie I am referring to the past couple of years. LSU then didn't help themselves by hiring that moron Orgeron. LSU shot itself in the foot and will continue to pay the price for that.

This is your quote
quote:

who's the (singular) "Bama alum that ran it (the SEC)"?

quote:

Coaches get better with more experience. Saban is better at his job now than he was in 2004

quote:

went to the NFL, where he failed miserably and left in less than a year.

First, he did not "fail miserably". His record was 15-17 in the NFL. Second, he did not leave in less than a year. he coached two full seasons in Miami.

Even the potential Rich Rod hire showed Bama's commitment to get a proven winner at HC of a major program.

He wouldn't have been in the same stratosphere as Saban, but he certainly wouldn't have been as handcuffed as he was at Michigan.

Alabama doesn't have the largest support staff in the SEC.

10 years from now we’ll probably be talking about another team, every thing changes but it always stays the same.

I remember listening to this unfold on Sirius radio on Bill King's show. When he turned Bama down, or I guess his wife made him turn us down, I felt about as rejected as a sports fan could get. We were laughing stocks. It was like the culmination of a train wreck that started when fRan left for A&M, then the Mike Price debacle, the whole Shula/Croom hiring fiasco, the Shula era, and then his firing.

Wow. You remind me of those who think Bush orchestrated 9/11 so he could invade Iraq and kill Saddam for his dad.

Oh...and so we could steal all their oil.

I am an LSU fan, but some of their fans (much like most teams) are insane
