The “ultimate Blue Blood” isn’t a program with zero Coaches National Championships and two legitimate AP National Championships.

No one cares if you have the most wins ever if you’ve played by far the most games ever. No one cares about wins over Mining Schools and Factory Worker Trade Schools. You’re as much a Blue Blood as Minnesota is, you just have a journalism school with self righteous alumni who are as boisterous as they are plentiful.

Michigan, Notre Dame, those are relics of a 4 and 5 generations ago. They are Bronze Age materials in a Digital world.

Their biggest issue is they don't recruit in the same stratosphere as Ohio State, and I'm not really sure why they haven't been able to.

I like Harbaugh there and pull for them especially against Ohio State. I think eventually he will get over the hump and make the playoffs.

I rather be rich with new money than broke with old.

2019 Michigan is the trust fund kid that only got into the country could his granddaddy built it. Which is better than not being in it all

As long as he wins 9 games a year he will never be fired and he will always be overpaid. He's the ultimate Michigan Man.

People act like Michigan was contending for national championships pre-Harbaugh. They weren't even a .500 team before he got there.

Would you rather hope Harbaugh can get over the hump and know you'll consistently be good or restart, owe a lot of money and potentially go back to sub .500 records?

Clemson has to compete with another major state university in a relatively small state and wins championships. How is that possible?

Because they see what happened to Nebraska, FSU, Tennessee, etc, when they forced out a coach who won a lot but just didn't win the big game.

Michigan isn't a football-talent-rich state. Like Nebraska, this is their ceiling.

here, let me be of assistance.

You go to rivals state by state recruiting.
Look at ohio.
Pick this most recent data and any random year a few years back.
Ohio usually has 80 to 100 kids.
Michigan has 10 or 20.
Ohio has more 4 stars than mich has listed including mostly 3 stars.

I went to high school in Ohio. The talent level in the state is good but not nearly what it used to be.

Michigan decided that they would only recruit the east coast of Florida . Llioyd Carr was everywhere back in the day. They were all over Louisiana 20 - 25 years ago.

Anthony Thomas in N. LA
Chris Howard 1997
They had a DL from St.Aug in NOLA
Tom Brady from San Francisco area

Right now they are real interested in Iverson Celestine at Fountainbleau in Mandeville. Michigan recruiters were there 2 weeks ago

Because he's been pretty good despite the narrative. He's gone 10-3 more often than not, and their main rival is in their golden age. Who are they going to get that's going to do any better?

You spend 3 generations breeding with commoners, you are no longer a noble or aristocrat. Just another schmuck who tries to cling to a family legacy they have no claim anyone else would reasonably recognize.

and this isn't a new negative hit for them. They haven't been able to for nearly 20 years. Honestly, I think Michigan suffers from the same issue that Nebraska football does. They are no longer a massive national player when it comes to recruiting the entire country. In the 80's and 90's they were able to dominate everyone. Other (mostly southern schools) have lapped them at this point.

I think to add onto this, Michigan 25 years ago was FAR above OSU as far as an educational institution. OSU has come a far way and kids who used to go away (the "brainy" guys) often are staying in state now instead of going to ND or Michigan.

My ACT score was in the top 25% of all applicants in 2001 and would now be in the 75%. That is a massive change in 20 years

Yeah, Michigan may just be destined for 9-3 type records. It's not the end of the world.
