Why does Michigan insist on keeping Harbaugh?
I don’t even need to list all the stats and records that go against him. It’s plain to see that he can’t lead (what some still consider) a blue blood program to a conference title game. I’m alright with it because I hate Michigan, but at some point it’s just a bad look for your school.

Because they owe him a lot of money.

Idk, they were pretty bad for a while he’s got them consistently mediocre.

They aren’t in a talented state.

They have instate rivals

They haven’t really been good in a long time and he at least wins some games

I guess cause he has been to a SB and is a Michigan man. Otherwise, if his name was Brady, he would be gone by now.

They got saddled with debt for a mediocre coach with a big name. Michigan must not like winning which should be unacceptable to the UM faithful.

I suppose you could liken their lack of success vs OSU to Bama/LSU the last few years. Except in our case, a change was made at the top

Considering where they were before Harbaugh things aren't as bad as people like to make it seem. The main issue is not beating Ohio State. Which very few teams are capable of doing so.

Folks have quickly forgotten the Rich Rod & Brady Hoke eras.

Their biggest issue is they don't recruit in the same stratosphere as Ohio State, and I'm not really sure why they haven't been able to.

and this isn't a new negative hit for them. They haven't been able to for nearly 20 years. Honestly, I think Michigan suffers from the same issue that Nebraska football does. They are no longer a massive national player when it comes to recruiting the entire country. In the 80's and 90's they were able to dominate everyone. Other (mostly southern schools) have lapped them at this point.

Was Coach O the first choice for LSU? Also LSU has been a far better program over the past two decades over Michigan.

As one member of the has-been club sticks up for another.

Is there a Nubber here to second your nomination?

Who they gonna get? The problem with this board is you act like great coaches grow on trees.

I think their problems really started when Tressel started putting a fence around Ohio. Michigan used to get some really good players from the Cleveland area and Youngstown/Warren.

They got impatient with Carr and he "resigned" even though he had some really good teams in the 2000s. RichRod didn't work out there because he never got his QB. I think he would have been there for several more years had they been able to land Terrelle Pryor. By the time Harbaugh got to Michigan, Urban Meyer had the Ohio State machine rolling at a level that very few could keep up with.

The biggest shocker to me with Harbaugh has been his inability to develop a QB considering he was so good at it at everywhere he had gone before. Josh Johnson at USD, Luck at Stanford, rebuilding Alex Smith's career and making Kaepernick look good at San Francisco, and then nothing at Michigan.

no.

Brady Hoke went 11-2, 8-5, 7-6, and 5-7.

Harbaugh has gone 10-3, 10-3, 8-5, 10-3, 9-4.

They would not have fired Hoke if he had the same record as Harbaugh and Little Jimmy would be gone if the team got worse every year ending with a losing season like it did with Brady.

Also, people seem to misremember how good they were under Lloyd Carr. In 10 of his 13 seasons Michigan had 3 or more losses. He had the one Natty and came close a second time but other than that his overall record is pretty similar to what Harbaugh has done.

Blue Blood - "Of noble or aristocratic descent" - aristocracy.

Given Michigan's history as the the 2nd most important program in CFB history's first 50 years (Notre Dame #1) - and with the all-time most wins in CFB history...

It's fair to say, they're a blue blood. You might call them old money and that's precisely what a blue blood is.

Miami isn't a blue blood - they're new money.

He also beat Ohio State six times, and most of those Ohio State teams were absolutely loaded. Carr's teams had more talent than they do now, from what I can remember.

Probably because he's doing better than the last few guys they hired.

The odds of getting someone worse are higher than the odds of getting someone better.
