Why does ABC/ESPN still have a ticker on the screen?

This isn’t 1996. We can get scores if we want them. No need to take up that much of the screen. Not to mention the amount of dead space within the ticker is ridiculous.

Yes, this is a petty gripe but with the SEC about to be exclusively on ESPN, it would be great to see it go away. They don’t have it for NFL games.

I don’t want to totally get rid of the ticker but it’s too big now.

I liked the old cbs one from 10-15 years ago that would just show other nfl scores with the leaders in passing, rushing, and receiving

Need to go back to 28/58 update. No reason at all for it to be constant.

While we’re on this topic, it’s a shame that 99% of games on YouTube TV are 720p.

More room for ads and promotion. It’s a revenue source

I think it’s still used so they can promote other ESPN programming like US Open tennis and the WNBA.

Is that what's going on? I went back into recalibrating my TV

You mean womens US Open. I don’t think I’ve heard them mention the mens tournament yet

I'm watching via antenna with ATSC 3.0 tuner so the local stations broadcast at 1080p and this ABC Georgia game looks noticeably worse than the CBS and FOX games on right now. Definitely sending 720p to the local station.

They could literally cut it in half and not lose any information or graphics.

Because they use it to advertise their other games and to sell ad space.

Yeah, but if they got rid of that ticker they couldn't advertise for Rookie Feds and a Formula1 race that all of 20k people are going to watch.

Yeah it’s shite. I believe it’s 1080p on their app, but everything else on YouTube TV is effectively 720p for CFB, even if you have the 4k package.

Reminds me of a 1990's webpage with frames.

CBSSN is the same, though maybe a little smaller.

and the 4k games are usually games you wouldn’t watch. Best they could do today is UTEP vs OU in 4K smh.

I said the exact same thing earlier today. On my 94” TV that’s actually a lot of valuable space

I like the Bally Sports thinner score bar. It has the scores of other games scrolling on the right side. With all scores, teams, time, etc of the game you're currently watching occupying the rest of the score bar. It's not too bulky like the ESPN score bar and ticker.
